Woodmill High School places great emphasis on the provision of a caring, broad-based education which encourages all of our pupils to have aspirations and which promotes an ethos of excellence, not only in the classroom, but also in the wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer.
We value our relationship with parents and welcome their support in building a learning environment which enables our pupils to become confident and responsible citizens.

COMPUTING

Former pupil goes to the USA

Former pupil Alasdair Campbell has started a Bachelor of Science degree course in Computer Science at the Lindenwood University, Missouri, United States of America. At Woodmill Alasdair successfully completed Higher Computing in 2006 and Advanced Higher Computing in 2007. He then gained a four-year scholarship to Lindenwood. There he is enhancing his water polo skills as well as studying computer science.

The Computing Club

The Computing Club for pupils in S1 and S2 meets each Thursday lunchtime at 12.20. Pupils work on graphics programs, problem solving games and the Internet.   For more information pupils should contact Mr Wylie in the Computing Department or come to room B11 any Thursday lunchtime.

Tesco Computers for Schools 2007

10,832 vouchers were collected earlier this year. The department has ordered a digital camera and a TFT monitor with the vouchers. Many thanks to parents and pupils who contributed; these resources are important additions to the department.

University of Glasgow Seminar

Dr Peter Saffrey from the University of Glasgow came to Woodmill on the afternoon of Thursday 13th September and gave a series of computing workshops for students studying Higher Computing. Topics covered were Algorithm Development, Communications Protocols and Machine Learning. The workshops were very well received by the students.

MATHEMATICS

The maths department will soon have calculators for pupils to purchase.  It is important that all pupils have access to a calculator and whilst we have a small number to lend out in class, pupils will be required to use them for their homework and in exams.
