Woolsery Primary School
Woolsery, EX39 5QS Bideford
01237 431307

As a County Primary School, the Local Authority set our Admissions Policy. For queries, information or appeals about admissions, please contact Devon County Council's Admissions Team on 01392 382055 or preferably by email at

At present, the County Council have set a Planned Admissions Number of 15 children per year group for our school, although in most year groups we have agreement with the Admissions Team to be over that number. However, the P.A.N of 15 does mean that if you live outside the normal admissions area, in order to admit children into already full year-groups the school is required to obtain permission before an offer of a place can be made. It is very helpful if, when you contact the school about places, you know which current year group your child will be placed in.

If you live within the Designated Area ("catchment area") for Woolsery, you are entitled to a place at Woolsery Primary School. Consequently, the Admissions Team will automatically agree to a place being made available to you, regardless of the number of children already in that year group. If you wish to see our Designated Area, please click HERE.

Admissions information in the School Prospectus is as follows:

Children are admitted between the ages of 4 and 11.   You and your child are very welcome to visit to meet the staff and look around. Please contact the Office for a mutually convenient time.

Children born:

1st September to 28th/29th February start full-time in the Autumn term

1st March to 31st August start full-time in the Spring term

Sunflowers Preschool opened at Easter, 2003 and offers five morning sessions and three afternoon sessions weekly until they reach school age.   This is then followed by a home visit from the Reception teacher by appointment and part-time visits are arranged in the second half of the term prior to full-time entry.

We encourage any new children joining us to spend at least half a day, prior to entry, as this means they are familiar with its people and places and this helps to ensure a smooth transition when changing from another school.

School Aims

The School has agreed a new set of Aims from September 2007 which clearly underpin our Mission Statement "Enabling children to learn in a caring environment at the heart of the community". Our aims are:

At our school, we all...

  • Value the success, achievements and aspirations of ourselves and of others within a safe and caring environment
  • Recognise children as individuals who are trying to develop their own personalities, aptitudes and attitudes
  • Help learners to develop lively, inquiring minds and a love of learning through a creative, diverse and responsive curriculum
  • Provide an atmosphere of mutual respect, honesty, co-operation, kindness, good humour and confidence which encourages self discipline through care and consideration
  • Strive to be an integral part of the local community to promote a mutual sense of belonging
  • Ensure parents can approach the school with problems and praise, being confident that the school will respond appropriately
  • Provide equal opportunities for all, regardless of age, gender, religion or ability
