Our facilities

Kudos Bar at Anglia Ruskin
Anglia Ruskin University's main campuses provide areas for study and places to escape from it all. There are all the academic facilities you would expect, from dedicated teaching rooms through to libraries and computing facilities.

The Students' Union run a bar on both sites - pop in for a drink or make your way there for one of their regular social events. Also on both campuses are catering outlets. In Chelmsford the main refectory provides everything from a simple cup of tea to a full hot meal with desserts. In Cambridge there is a choice of the Batman Cafe where you can surf the net over a coffee or the refectory for more substantial meals. Both provide a selection of refreshments and meals.

Both Cambridge and Chelmsford have a gym/fitness room. Whilst Chelmsford has the added bonus of a sports hall, students in Cambridge have access to sports fields and the campus is within easy access of locally run leisure facilities offering preferential rates to students.

Regular performances are hosted by Anglia Ruskin University's Mumford Theatre on the Cambridge Campus where productions are arranged by Anglia Ruskin students and theatre companies from across the UK.

Chelmsford is home to the Anglia Singers, a group of Anglia Ruskin staff, students and friends who perform a varied programme in aid of local churches and charities throughout the year. You can find out more at their website.

University Library

Digital library collections provide on and off campus access to a wide range of databases and growing collection of electronic journals and electronic books.

Each library offers a range of study facilities, including group study rooms, open access computers and seminar rooms equipped with presentation facilities. Introductory and information skills training programmes are available at all sites to ensure that you're equipped to make the best use of the information resources provided. Campuses

Chelmsford

There are two Chelmsford based campuses, Central and Rivermead.

The pleasant and modern Rivermead Campus is located on the bank of the River Chelmer and is only ten minutes walk from the shops and transport links in the centre of Chelmsford. The School of Education is already established in Sawyers Building and Queens Building is home to the main University Library for Chelmsford students plus the main audio-visual, media and IT support units.

The latest addition to the campus is the prestigious Michael A Ashcroft Building, home to the Ashcroft International Business School, Anglia Ruskin University reception and the refectory.
Image of Cambridge Campus

Cambridge

The world-renowned student friendly image is not lost on those who choose to study at Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge campus. Located in the heart of the city, it is only a short walk from the shopping, bars, restaurants and entertainment found in the centre of Cambridge. On campus a mix of historic and modern buildings are home to around 8,000 students. Excellent facilities, both academic and entertainment based, are available to students. Cambridge is the place to be for an active social life and a rich student experience.

Basildon

This smaller campus, opened in 2000, is part of our mission to extend the opportunity of a university education to those who want to study close to home. Basildon offers an experienced and enthusiastic teaching team, personal attention, on-site library and IT access in the computer suite. The campus provides a friendly and comfortable learning environment with a community of students drawn from the local area.

Campus Development

In Chelmsford, our Rivermead Campus continues to expand into 23 acres of available land. The Student Centre is now based in the new Tindall Building. It replaces existing facilities with a modern new bar and refectory as well as a new home for the University's support and advice centre. The new Mildmay Sports Hall, provides a base for all the University's sports and fitness activities at Chelmsford and includes county class badminton courts and a new fitness centre.
Image of Helmore Building, Cambridge
In Cambridge, there is continual improvement and redevelopment taking place across the campus. The Helmore Building now boasts a large extension that includes an internal street which takes visitors and students through to a new refectory, bar and Student Services.

There are also impressive plans for a Centre for Creativity and Culture that would upgrade facilities on campus and include new music, drama and dance rehearsal space, gallery areas and photographic, multimedia, music technology and editing suites. The Mumford Theatre would be refurbished to provide better facilities and to integrate more modern technology. The University is currently raising funds for the project which is expected to cost around £9m.

Sports and Leisure

If you want to meet new people or have a particular interest make sure you investigate the wide range of sporting and leisure activities on offer on both campuses. They vary from a range of societies through to sports clubs provided through the Students Union.

In Chelmsford and Cambridge why not start off your active social life by making your way to any of our Students Union bars? These are the hub of many events, like quizzes, competitions and DJ nights and, of course, a place to meet friends over a cheap drink. In the past the bars have hosted hypnotists, magicians, tribute bands, karaoke, pool competitions and much more.

Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford has a sports hall and fitness room with cardio and weights equipment. Click here for further information on sports and activities in Chelmsford.

In Cambridge there is a multi-gym on campus and access to off campus sports pitches. Nearby are the Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre and Parkside Pool.

We also have several sports teams on both campuses. Many compete in national student events through the British Universities Sports Association.

Anglia Singers

The Anglia Singers is a mixed choir numbering about 30 members which performs a wide repertoire from sacred to secular music, from anthems and other major sacred works such as Handel's The Messiah and John Rutter's Requiem, to folksong arrangements and selections from shows.

From time to time, the Singers join with their partner choir, the Trianon Choir for performances in other parts of East Anglia including Snape Maltings, and members regularly join on trips to Europe (most recently to Paris in October 2005).

The Singers are conducted by their founder, Professor Chris Green, formerly of Anglia Ruskin University and now one of its Emeritus Professors.
