Teaching and Learning
The University of Bedfordshire is committed to providing an effective and supportive learning environment for all its students, providing challenging and innovative teaching and learning.
Teaching quality
The University of Bedfordshire has an excellent teaching record and this deserved reputation is based on its outstanding performance in official inspections conducted by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA). It received ‘excellent’ scores in a number of subjects including Sport, Media, Design, Education and Nursing.
The University was named best new university for the quality of its teaching by The Sunday Times in 2004 - for the second year running and continues its tradition of high standard teaching. In December 2006, the Inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) praised the University of Bedfordshire for the high quality of its vocational teaching courses.
In a competitive bidding process across the sector and in recognition of the University’s record in teaching excellence, the University was granted £3.3 million by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) in 2005 to create a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL).
Bridges – Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL)
The CETL opened its doors in early 2006 and attracts international attention because of its unique approach to encouraging creative thinking and supporting student learning, opening up opportunities and possibilities not just to our students and tutors but to businesses and the local community.
Primarily supporting personal, career and professional development through the undergraduate curriculum, the CETL aims at building bridges between student learning and the world beyond the University. Bridges supports a range of activities at institutional, department and individual level designed to enhance student learning and employability. Recognising and rewarding good practice in teaching and learning is central to Bridges’ activities, delivering substantial benefits to students and those supporting their learning.
