Student Services and Facilities

Student Support
Student Support offers free, non-judgemental, confidential and professional services to prospective, current and former students of BG. Whatever your situation, Student Support is here to help you. If you're unsure who can help, make us your first port of call. Our team has many years' experience of providing support to students in higher education and we have a thorough understanding of how students are affected by many issues. The Student Support Team provides the following services Accessibility Support, Advice, Careers, Counselling, Finance and Access to Learning Fund, Equal Opportunities and Careers Services.

The Careers service offers professional and impartial advice, guidance and information to all our students and graduates. Advice is also available, if required, to prospective students interested in studying at Bishop Grosseteste University College.  Careers activities include: confidential individual careers guidance interviews, drop in sessions to access the careers resources, group work sessions on subjects such as CV preparation and interview technique, Jobshop, help with finding suitable job vacancies and career events including talks and workshops.

BG is a Church College and so the Chaplaincy plays an important part in University College life, through contributions to the academic and social life of the University College and helping to develop relationships with surrounding communities. There is a full-time Chaplain and Chaplaincy Assistant, who work closely with local ministers from all denominations to provide an ecumenical environment of prayer and worship for the University College.

Learning Support
The University College encourages all of its students to develop their academic skills, throughout the duration of their studies.  Therefore, learning support is available to any student who needs it, from enrolment to course completion. This support includes specialist help for those with specific learning difficulties and other disabling conditions.  Individual and small group tutorials are provided to students on request.  These are normally offered between 9.00 and 5.00 Monday to Friday, but evening and weekend sessions can also be arranged in consultation with the Learning Support Co-ordinator.  Prospective students who have any queries about the range and nature of the support available should contact Dr. Lloyd Richardson, by telephone on 01522 583663; or email

Learning Resources
The Sibthorp Library, situated on campus, offers a pleasant environment in which to study and in addition to a wide range of electronic resources provides access to over 145,000 books, journals, audio-visual materials and resource packs.  Other facilities include an IT suite, photocopiers, bookable seminar rooms and quiet study areas.  The Library is open seven days a week during term time and staff are always on hand to offer help and advice. Our IT facilities are situated across the campus.  Every student has access to a network account, email account and internet access.  As well as the Library computer suites there is an additional IT suite located in the Skinner Building, and computer areas attached to particular departments.  There is also a campus-wide wireless network available for student use via mobile devices.  A variety of audio-visual facilities (video cameras, data projectors) are available for students to use on campus.

Other Facilities
Our University College Shop provides stationery, books and convenience products at competitive prices. The University College also has excellent facilities; you will have use of the newly built Sports and Fitness Centre complete with fitness suite, sports hall and sports field. The fitness suite is FREE for BG students and there is also an active Sports Society.
