Insurance of Personal Effects
The University provides you with insurance cover for all your personal property whilst you live in University-owned / managed accommodation.
Residential Accommodation
Aberystwyth has recently invested over £30m in creating new residences for students. To cater for the increasing demand for places in residences the University has leased large complexes of properties which the University manages on a day-to-day basis.
You will find that the residences are the focus of a thriving and happy social life for students. There are, generally speaking, three main types:
Self Catering Residences
These offer the flexibility and freedom to enable you to organise your own life according to your priorities. The residences consist largely of single study bedrooms with shared facilities such as kitchen and bathrooms. Prices begin at £62.00 per week (twin), single rooms range from £69.00 to £85.25 per week (en suite).
Catered Residences
All Catered Residence fees include a prepaid meal allowance which is normally sufficient for the average student. This allows students the flexibility of where and when to eat. Students will be able to top up their Loyalty Cards beyond the sums included in the Residence Fee if they so wish.
In this type of residence you are provided with a range of facilities including cooked meals at a discounted rate. Prices begin from £80.75 per week (twin); single rooms are £92.50 per week (prices based on term time only).
Meal Loyalty Card
The University has introduced a Meal Loyalty Card for students regardless of whether they reside in Self-Catering Residences or in the Private Sector. The Card offers students a wide choice of meals from a number of catering outlets at discount prices, affording students the flexibility of where and when to eat.
Family Accommodation
If you wish to bring your family with you, then there is a very limited supply of places available in University accommodation. Accommodation for families is also available in the Private Sector and is very varied. A small unit for a couple without children may cost between £90 and £100 per week and a small two-bedroomed house might cost from £100 upwards. Rents sometimes include water rates, but do not include energy costs.
Private Sector Accommodation
The Accommodation Office can provide you with help and advice on Private Sector accommodation. A regularly updated register of addresses suitable for student use is available to you on request.
