At Ysgol Dinas Brân students follow a curriculum that gives a solid grounding for the future and a broad educational experience that is second to none. We provide a wide range of opportunities for all pupils and encourage them to become “life long learners”.
Many lessons are taught in mixed-ability form groups but some setting has been introduced in years 7 and 8 and 9 to ensure students work at the appropriate pace and level.
In Years 10 and 11 (Key Stage 4) there are many opportunity for choice, based on student's strengths and interests. All option subjects are currently taught to GCSE level and all are available to all students. Some vocational packages are available, including DIDA, vocational pathways and vocational GCSEs.
ICT is used as a tool to support all learning. Through the programme covered, students are taught to be critical and largely autonomous users of ICT. Specialist packages are used to support the learning in all departments. Students are able to follow ICT to GCSE, A level and also achieve the ECDL qualification.
The Sixth Form choices are varied, offering scope for our students to specialize in many fields. The Learning Centre is being developed with first class facilities, resources and latest digital technology equipment. Links with other schools, colleges and universities are very strong.
Careers guidance is available for all, so learning pathways can be properly considered and futures planned with care. Careers lessons take place from year 9 and work experience is arranged in year 10 and in the sixth form.
The school is fully bilingual with a Welsh stream from years 7-11. One class in each year is taught all subject areas through the medium of welsh. We aim to extend this to the sixth form.
All students follow a course of study in Welsh for five years as required by National Curriculum regulations. In Years 10 and 11, all students study for the Short Course GCSE and have the opportunity to do a full GCSE. |
