Our School
Our school is located in the centre of the town of Bakewell, in the heart of the Peak District Derbyshire, famous for its Bakewell Pudding.

Our school currently has 83 children on roll organised into four classes. A two year refurbishment programme has only recently been completed and we offer a bright, stimulating environment for our children to learn in. We are committed to ensuring that your child's first years in formal education are happy, fulfilled and memorable! We aim to create a happy, secure and stimulating environment in which all children can fulfil their maximum potential. Our vision statement reflects these aims;

Building Better, Building Brighter

October Newsletter

Working In Partnership, Building Better, Building Brighter
Dear Parents and Carers,

This is turning into a very busy term despite all efforts to keep it simple, there are always many things to organise and arrange. Most of them are good fun and worthwhile and hopefully relevant and interesting to the children and yourselves. One very important piece of work is our new vision. The time has come for the whole school community to look again at our vision for the school and our pupils. I feel that it is crucial to involve the whole school community in the development of this new vision.

The teaching and non teaching staff have helped in re-writing our values and our aims and also a new ‘strapline’ or visionary statement. We all felt that the ‘Building Better, Building Brighter’ ‘did not meet our needs and was difficult to explain to the children. We came up with ‘ Bakewell C of E Infant School...Where Every Child Can Shine’ instead.
I have attached a copy of the full vision to the back of this letter with space for your comments and suggestions. The staff and governors have all contributed to the process so far. We would be happy to have some feedback from you, too. I will be discussing this with the children and school council in the next week. Click on the PDF link at the bottom of the page for a printable Draft Vision.

Parent Consultations
I hope that most of you have signed up to meet your child’s teacher starting next week October 8th. All classes now have lists of times on their notice boards. If you have any problems please speak to your child’s teacher.

Curriculum Evening
This has been arranged for October 17th at 7 -8.30pm. So far the response has not been great - we need to have a decent number of interested people in order for us to run this event. Come and find out about how we teach phonics, literacy and numeracy so that you can help your child!! Please let us know if you are to attend by the Monday of next week.

Governors
Mr Jonathan Tranter has resigned as Chair of Governors and from the Governing Body with immediate effect. He has been a valued and greatly respected governor for 8 years, and for the last 4 of them he has been Chair. He has seen the school through many changes and developments and his professional manner has been a real asset to the school. The whole school sends their thanks to him for all his support over the years.
The Governors have appointed Mrs Kath Naylor as our new Chair of Governors and Mrs Clair Dathan as Vice Chair.

ABC Fitness Challenge
All children took part in this round robin event with lots of enthusiasm and energy! Well done everyone! Please can you send in your sponsor forms and money as soon as possible so that we can receive our certificates and proceeds from the event to buy some new playground equipment. Many thanks for your support.

Midday Supervisors
After 7 and a half years of loyal service, Mrs Beeston decided that it was time for a change and has resigned as Senior Midday Supervisor. She has taken on more hours with her job at Thornbridge Hall at Great Longstone.
Miss Melissa Raynor has taken on the role of Senior Midday and we have appointed Mrs Jane Templeman and Miss Anne -Marie Driscoll as new midday supervisors. Anne-Marie has been in this role previously, filling in as our relief midday.

Walk to School Week
This year’s Walk to School Week or Travel Smart Week (as it is now being called) is taking place Monday to Friday starting next week the 8th October.
We will be sending out information about how to help the environment and fitness levels by walking to school wherever possible.
Every school should have a travel plan in place in order to plan for ways to improve the journey to school for all. A questionnaire will be sent shortly for you to fill in and return to school. This will help to show where and how people travel to and from school and give you the opportunity to suggest ideas. We already have some people who are interested in forming an action group especially with the difficulties some people are experiencing with crossing Buxton Road. If interested please see Sandra Wetton.

Competition !!
We would like to ask the children to design a picture to put on the front cover of our Travel Plan and to also use around school. This should be to show how people can ‘Travel Smart’ to school and can be drawn, painted or done on the computer. A prize of a book voucher for ?5.00 will be given to the winner. All entries to be in by the end of next week. Get busy!!

Harvest Service
Please come and join us in church for our Harvest Service starting at 2.30 pm on Thursday 18th October.

Cross Country Event
This event has been organised at Lady Manners School on Friday 12th October at 1.30pm. A selection of children will be taking part. If your child is selected, you will be notified by letter with the full arrangements for the afternoon. Please look out for this information.

Fun Mats
Each child will be creating a design in school which you will be able to see displayed outside the classrooms. You will then be able to order this design to be made into coasters, placemats, glass chopping boards, mouse mats, bags and framed pictures. You may order as many as you would like, as you only buy your own child’s work. We have samples for you to see in the office area if you need to.
These would make fantastic Christmas Presents for you and your families.

As always we are doing all we can to ensure your child enjoys coming to school. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to come and see me or speak to the class teachers. We are very proud of our school and the achievements of all the children and staff who work here.
