Netherseal St. Peter's C. E. (C) Primary School

We are a small village school in a rural setting in the heart of the National forest. As a small school we are able to offer small classes, a warm, family atmosphere, staff who know and have time for all the children, and a caring school community. We are able to combine the best of what small schools can offer together with excellent teaching, a purpose – built Early Years classroom, state of the art computers with internet access in all classes, and a reputation for high standards.

Netherseal St Peter’s is affiliated to the Church of England and maintains strong links to the Church of Netherseal. As such we promote the Christian values of respect, honesty, tolerance, forgiveness and care for others.

We value the support of parents and expect that parents will wish to be involved in their children’s education. We believe that children benefit most when home and school work together. We have excellent parent links and continually look for ways to improve and develop these.

AIMS

To provide a broadly based, balanced curriculum ensuring opportunities for learning and the personal development and enjoyment of all children

To ensure each child achieves their academic potential

To promote high standards of attainment

To enable children to develop personal, social and emotional skills in order to form good relationships.

To encourage children to be independent and confident with high self esteem

To encourage children to become caring, responsible citizens.

To foster a love of learning

In order to achieve our aims we:

Ensure all children have access to a broad, balanced curriculum

Provide opportunities for enhancement and enrichment in addition to the National Curriculum.

Provide opportunities for children to develop lively and enquiring minds

Encourage children to develop their capacity for learning through independent and collaborative study and the development of personal interests.

Ensure a positive ethos which promotes high self esteem and recognises personal achievement.

ADMISSIONS

The Governors will consider written requests for early entry within any school year. Families living outside the catchment area of the school may apply for a place by contacting the School Office.

Should the school be oversubscribed then the following order of priority will be adopted:

Children living within the normal area of the school at the time of admission.

Children not living in the normal area served by the school but who have brothers and / or sisters attending the school.

Children whose parents request a place on religious grounds

Other children whose parents have requested a place.

Parents of children who have been offered a place will be invited to visit the school in the term before admission.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Music

All children have an opportunity to learn a musical instrument, from recorders to brass or woodwind instruments. Teachers from the Derbyshire Music Service visit the school each week to teach brass and woodwind instruments. Children learning these instruments are also encouraged to attend band sessions at Granville  during weekday evenings.
