Repton Preparatory School
Foremarke Hall
Foremarke Hall, Milton, DE65 6EJ, UK Derby
+44 (0)1283 703269

Foremarke Hall is one of the UK's leading independent schools providing boarding and day places for 450 boys and girls from the age of   to 13.

Set in a fine Georgian mansion surrounded by 50 acre grounds, the school is just a short distance from the village of Repton, where our famous Senior School is located.

Foremarke is renowned as a busy, happy and successful prep school offering an education that balances traditional values with modern educational thinking.

The school strives to encourage children to be ambitious for themselves, to enjoy life and care about the people around them. A Foremarke education is about variety, purpose, success and enjoyment.

The school values a family atmosphere and strong sense of community, and seeks to bring out the most in every pupil through excellent teaching and small class sizes.
Education at Foremarke is broad and balanced, striving to provide the highest standards of knowledge, experience and skills that will be a sound preparation for life.
Each lesson aims to challenge and motivate children to achieve their best and persevere in the face of challenges.
The school attaches great importance to discipline and common sense, and seeks to encourage unselfish behaviour, respect and good manners through example.
It is also sensitive to children’s individual and emotional needs and promotes positive attitudes, self-confidence and self-esteem.

The Pre-Prep Department is set in self-contained accommodation within the school grounds, with secure play areas and a spacious multi-purpose hall, a dedicated library and wireless computer room.
Providing education for boys and girls, when they are ready, from the age of 2½, the Pre-Prep offers small classes and a higher teacher/pupil ratio.
The children have access to a broad and well-balanced curriculum within which skills and talents can be developed to the full. The curriculum is organised around the Foundation Stage for Nursery and Reception and National Curriculum Key Stage 1 for Years 1 and 2.

Specialist teaching in music, drama, French, PE and swimming is also introduced at this level.

The Pre-Prep operates from Monday to Friday, and after-school care - a popular feature of Pre-Prep life - is available until 6pm each evening.

The Lower School builds on the firm foundations established in the Pre-Prep, and prepares children for the more varied curriculum of Upper School.

This area of the school comprises mixed ability classes in Year 3 and streamed classes in Year 4.

Each class has its own enthusiastic and committed teacher who monitors each child's academic progress as well as taking an active part in his or her pastoral care.

The Lower School staff work closely with Pre-Prep and Upper School colleagues to achieve a well-balanced curriculum, and each curriculum area is grounded in the recommendations of the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority guidelines and is taught by class teachers or subject specialists.

Within the Upper School pupils are taught entirely by specialists and follow a 'secondary school' style timetable.

The average class size is 15 and children are placed according to ability in the form or set best suited to them.

Teaching is of the highest standard, with experts in their subjects inspiring children to ask questions, think for themselves and apply new-found knowledge to the world around them.

The Upper School's facilities are plentiful, offering children the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of state-of-the-art technology and laboratory equipment.

In addition, each subject is supported with numerous teaching aids, including a wealth of books and written resources, classroom computers and projection equipment.

Boarding lies at the heart of Foremarke Hall, building a unique sense of community and ensuring children receive the very best start in life.

The majority of boarders are full board, although boarding is also offered on a weekly or a ‘hotel' basis, which provides an excellent transition for those planning to board later in their school careers.

Children are encouraged to treat their house as their home – a place they can relax, study, build lasting friendships and gain independence.

When the school day ends boarders make the most of a structured evening of free time activities and supervised prep.

At weekends boarders can continue using Foremarke's amazing facilities and enjoy a range of trips and activities – from visiting places of culture and history to the thrill of indoor skiing, children experience life in a variety of ways.
