At West Park pupils are:

safe and treated with care, respect and dignity;

happy and make worthwhile relationships with other children and adults;

well taught by interested teachers with challenging lessons;

immersed in a culture of high expectation and high achievement.

High expectations in academic attainment go hand in hand with high expectations in discipline and behaviour. All pupils wear school uniform and take a pride in their appearance. West Park instils in its pupils a common set of values; achievement, confidence and responsibility are at the heart of what we are as a school. I welcome enquiries about the school; please don’t hesitate to contact me personally.

Pupils, parents and staff striving to:

• Enjoy the challenge and achievement of learning.

• Develop the strengths of the individual.

• Experience academic, social and personal success.

• Develop consideration and co-operation.

• Create a stimulating and supportive environment.

All courses are held within the school. During the day we use a specially designed room which has 10 high specification computers, both colour and black & white laser printers, scanners, cameras and other office equipment.

A large interactive white board is used as a teaching aid.

IT Suites

Outside school hours we have access to 3 large IT Suites, each contains over 30 high specification computers.

All three suites have large white boards and projectors which are used with the latest software available to enhance teaching and learning.

All three rooms are fully air conditioned and create a pleasant learning environment.

Outside school hours we have access to all the facilities required by a modern school library, including high specification computers. These are all networked with fast internet access.

We take advantage of the latest software available to us to help us offer support and improve teaching and learning. This includes high speed internet access.

The Admission limit of the school will be 270.
The Governors’ policy for admission is as follows:-

Those who have stated West Park as their preferred secondary school through the Common Application Forms by the common closing date.

1. Children who are ‘looked after’.
2. Those children residing in the normal area served by the school.
3. Those with a sibling currently attending the school.
4. When there are medical grounds for admitting the pupil supported by a doctor’s certificate.
5. Other children whose parents have requested a place.

In categories 1 – 5 when choices have to be made between children satisfying the same criteria, proximity of the pupil’s home to school measured by the shortest walking route will be given priority.
Closing Date: The common closing date of 23rd October for Derby City residents and 20th October for Derbyshire County Council residents.
Notifications: Parents will be notified of the governors’ decision on 1st March next year.
