Welcome to Brampford Speke C of E Primary School!

Can I welcome you and your child to Brampford Speke Church of England Primary School. The school was originally opened in 1868. Since that time the school has seen many changes and has been significantly remodelled. During the more recent times, a new Arts room has been built and the school house has been integrated as part of the school.

The latter is particularly significant as it has enabled Brampford Area Pre-School children to join the school family and in so doing secures a coherent educational provision.

This website has been produced to enable you to find out something about the aims and values of our school and give you information about aspects of school life. It will only provide you with limited information, so please do not hesitate to contact us if there are any points upon which you would like further information.

Headteacher

AIMS AND VALUES

Brampford Speke Church of England School recognises its historic foundation as a Church school and aims to preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with a Christian ethos.

The school aims to serve its community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of a Christian belief and practice. It encourages understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers all its pupils.

The school aims to promote a caring and sharing attitude where children are encouraged to build their confidence within a safe and happy environment. It aims for high standards of teaching and learning through an agreed range of practice to enable consistency and progression for all its pupils.

The aims of the school are achieved through:

  • Offering a secure and safe learning environment where quality learning can take place;
  • Offering clear expectations for both behaviour and respect for one another;
  • Providing a stimulating and challenging learning environment that aims to develop the whole child in relation to the world around them;
  • Promoting achievement for all children through a balanced and varied curriculum;
  • Raising standards by developing high-quality resources, which match the children's learning needs;
  • Offering open and supportive leadership in developing the school community with the aim of promoting the values and ethics of the school.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Brampford Speke Primary is very much a community school and as such is an integral part of village life. The support received from parents, governors and friends of the school is immense and not only serves to enrich and broaden the children's education, but also instils in them positive attitudes towards the value of our school.

Voluntary and paid helpers are encouraged in the school to give the children a wider variety of activities and more individual attention.

Throughout the year these activities vary depending on demand or available expertise, but have included Art & Craft, Tag Rugby, Football, Computing, Kwik Cricket, Rounders, Country Dancing and Music.

The arts are given high profile in the school with drama and music at the forefront. From September 2005, the school will be utilising a performance arts hour where the whole school will be involved in an area of performance. Children are given opportunity to learn an instrument and the school traditionally encourages these opportunities. Throughout the year the children are expected to play not only to their classmates, but also to wider audiences. Events such as the Carol Concert, School Production and Leavers' Service form a natural focus and showcase for this work.

Much of this enrichment programme could not take place without a great deal of help from parents and friends. If you would like to be part of the team or have a friend who could assist, please contact the school.

Many of these activities are free, but some may only go a head if sufficient parents are prepared to make a contribution. It has long been school policy to subsidise some of these activities so that no child is excluded from taking part purely on the grounds of cost.

PRE-SCHOOL

Brampford Area Pre-school is a fun-loving group of 2-5 year olds with strong links to Brampford Speke school and also to Brampford Speke Toddler group.

We follow the Foundation Stage curriculum and support the 'Every Child Matters' and 'Birth to Three' Agendas. Our strong linkswith the school make transition really easy; pre-school children regularly listen to stories in Class 1, cook and play with the Class 1 children. Our highly qualified and caring staff ensure all National Standards are met.

A relatively small group of children allow the staff to meet indivdual needs and get to know the children really well. This can be particularly helpful for the very young children. All in all, our children are happy, learn at their own pace, make secure relationships with staff and peers and can look forward to a smooth transition into school.
