Brampford Speke Primary is very much a community school and as such is an integral part of village life. The support received from parents, governors and friends of the school is immense and not only serves to enrich and broaden the children's education, but also instils in them positive attitudes towards the value of our school.
Voluntary and paid helpers are encouraged in the school to give the children a wider variety of activities and more individual attention.
Throughout the year these activities vary depending on demand or available expertise, but have included Art & Craft, Tag Rugby, Football, Computing, Kwik Cricket, Rounders, Country Dancing and Music.
The arts are given high profile in the school with drama and music at the forefront. From September 2005, the school will be utilising a performance arts hour where the whole school will be involved in an area of performance. Children are given opportunity to learn an instrument and the school traditionally encourages these opportunities. Throughout the year the children are expected to play not only to their classmates, but also to wider audiences. Events such as the Carol Concert, School Production and Leavers' Service form a natural focus and showcase for this work.
Much of this enrichment programme could not take place without a great deal of help from parents and friends. If you would like to be part of the team or have a friend who could assist, please contact the school.
Many of these activities are free, but some may only go a head if sufficient parents are prepared to make a contribution. It has long been school policy to subsidise some of these activities so that no child is excluded from taking part purely on the grounds of cost. |
