The curriculum at Dalwood is in accordance with the legal requirements of the
National Curriculum in England for pupils aged 5 – 11. This consists of 11 subjects
and Religious Education which all children must study at school.
Core subjects: English (Literacy), Mathematics (Numeracy), Science, Information
Communications Technology (ICT), Religious Education (RE).
Foundation subjects: History, Geography, Design Technology, Music, Art, Physical
Education (PE), Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship.
For each subject there are learning objectives setting out what children should
know and be able to do at each stage of their primary education and also learning
outcomes which inform assessment processes and procedures. There are also
descriptions of what children should be taught to help them to achieve the learning
objectives and outcomes; these are known as programmes of study.
At Dalwood School we aim to provide as rich and diverse a curriculum as possible.
Teaching and learning is planned to provide opportunities for children to explore a
variety of experiences so that they can begin to understand more about the world
around them. Since young children operate as individuals a considerable amount of
attention is needed to encourage them to take responsibility for their learning so
that they can begin to make choices and decisions for themselves. The closer the
partnership which can be established between home and school, the more effective
learning will be. |
