Welcome to Dalwood Primary School

At Dalwood School working in partnership with parents is a high priority. We believe that this partnership is most effective when parents are well informed about all aspects of school life. Our School is small and this enables us to know and understand every child as an individual with their own strengths and needs.

AIMS

We aim to:

  • Provide a safe, attractive and stimulating environment in which children in our care can learn the skills needed to enable them to reach their full potential.
  • Help all children to believe in themselves and their individual worth and to develop respect and appreciation for the differences between us.
  • Prepare each child for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of their future education and adult life.
  • Encourage parents to view the school and themselves as partners in their child’s education and to involve them in the work of the school to the advantage of all the children.
  • Contribute to the life of the community and to involve the community in the support and education of all our children.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum at Dalwood is in accordance with the legal requirements of the National Curriculum in England for pupils aged 5 – 11. This consists of 11 subjects and Religious Education which all children must study at school.

Core subjects: English (Literacy), Mathematics (Numeracy), Science, Information Communications Technology (ICT), Religious Education (RE).

Foundation subjects: History, Geography, Design Technology, Music, Art, Physical Education (PE), Personal, Social and Health Education and Citizenship.

For each subject there are learning objectives setting out what children should know and be able to do at each stage of their primary education and also learning outcomes which inform assessment processes and procedures. There are also descriptions of what children should be taught to help them to achieve the learning objectives and outcomes; these are known as programmes of study.

At Dalwood School we aim to provide as rich and diverse a curriculum as possible. Teaching and learning is planned to provide opportunities for children to explore a variety of experiences so that they can begin to understand more about the world around them. Since young children operate as individuals a considerable amount of attention is needed to encourage them to take responsibility for their learning so that they can begin to make choices and decisions for themselves. The closer the partnership which can be established between home and school, the more effective learning will be.
