We pride ourselves that the College is a happy and friendly place, where students work in a purposeful atmosphere, and every individual is treated in a fair and considerate manner. Personal relationships and personal development are seen as no less important than academic achievement. Our aim is to encourage every student to develop and maximise talent and abilities in order to achieve excellence.
The College has received positive reports from Ofsted, the Government's inspection body. We received a `Good Schools Award' in our first inspection in 1996. The College achieved Specialist Schools Status in 2005, in Science. Our new Science Block was opened in 2002 and we added our E-Learning Centre in January 2006. The facilities are excellent and supported by funding through the Specialist Schools Trust. We offer a wide range of activities and courses in our designated areas of Science and Mathematics.
The College has experienced an increase in student numbers and currently, all year groups 7-11 are full. A waiting list operates for students over our admission numbers. Due to increased student numbers, new buildings have been`phased in' as part of our development programme: Latterly, the new Science Block, Dining Room and Music Suite.
The vast majority of our students will continue into further education, post-16 and in particular staying on in our Sixth Form. The percentage of Honiton students continuing in education is very high and is a reflection on their hard work and commitment.
The College has a large spread of student ability, and a good reputation for dealing with the most and least able students. College policy papers particularly address how we can best work with the most able, and ensure students with learning difficulties are supported in their development. Education should be enjoyable, challenging and successful. It is about academic achievement and a lot more.

Our name demonstrates a long term aim and ambition to become an organisation which exists to meet, in large measure, the educational and recreational needs of the community.
We would define the community as the people of Honiton and surrounding villages. Part of our ambition is to see a greater blurring of the artificial divisions between work, learning and leisure, and also between child/student and adults out of college. Whilst the formal educations of students between the ages of 11 and 18 takes place on our campus, we increasing cater for some of the needs of different ages groups, from very young children to our oldest citizens. The college already has a well-established programme of evening classes for which there is a separate hand book. Over 800 students register for these classes on an annual basis.
There are also some daytime classes and other activities. We have a flourishing Youth Centre, details of which can be found in the college prospectus. In addition, it is possible for adults to join some of the Sixth Form classes. The college is also involved with the Honiton Festival which incorporates professional and local groups from within the community.
Both you and your child are joining much more than a college. We hope that you will become involved in our activities and find something that suits your interests and needs.
In addition to this we see ourselves and our students, very much as part of an ongoing process which has its formal beginning in the Primary Schools in our immediate area and continues with us. The idea of a 5-18 provision underlines the importance we give to continuity and progression.
Honiton Community College is a Devon Co-educational comprehensive day College for students aged 11-18. There are about 1100 students at present. The Sixth Form has courses leading to AS; A Level; GCSE; AVCE and GNVQ.
In addition to the main college there are facilities for students whose educational needs, in the opinion of the Education Authority, are best met in a partially separate environment.
