| WELCOME!!!
We are a large primary school set between the High Street and the ByPass
in this
pleasant Devon market town. We have an extensive site and a beautiful view. The
original buildings are of the 1930 quadrangle design with long corridors and square
classrooms. We have a well resourced Library and part time Librarian. There is a newer
building consisting of six classrooms, toilets, cloakrooms and offices, in 2001 we had a
further addition to the school consisting of six new classrooms housing years 3 and 4, and
a fully equipped computer suite maintained by our inhouse
ICT Technician.
The school currently has about 500 children and more than 20 teaching staff. There is a
Nursery Class and East Devon’s Hearing Support Centre is based here. Both the
governing body and the parent network are very supportive and active. |
| The ethos for our school is to create a caring environment in which
“People Matter Most”, whilst striving to achieve the highest possible
standards through the development of each individual’s potential.
We will achieve this by:
- Raising levels of achievement for all pupils, enabling them to realise their full
potential.
- Developing confident, disciplined, independent and enquiring learners, able to
make informed choices.
- Providing teaching and learning of the highest quality within a stimulating and
challenging environment.
- Fostering selfesteem
and personal responsibility, linked to respect for the needs
and feelings of others.
- Promoting effective communication and collaboration within the school
community.
- Providing a safe and happy environment.
- Building strong links between the school and the wider community.
- Taking every opportunity to celebrate our achievements.
|
| Our teaching is of course based on the National Curriculum. It consists of 3 “core” subject
(English, maths and science) and the “foundations” subject, ICT, design technology, history,
geography, music, art, PE). We also teach French to Year 6. The National Curriculum sets
targets which children are expected to reach at various stages in their progress through school.
The headteacher is very happy to show you a copy of the National Curriculum and explain how it
relates to your child’s education.
CURRICULUM AIMS
Devon Education Authority provides a statement of curriculum aims. Our Governing Body has
adopted these aims for our school. A copy is available from the headteacher.
The headteacher and the teaching staff are very willing to spend time talking about any aspect of
the curriculum. Please ask whenever you feel you would like to know more about what is taught.
Your enquiries might also be passed on to subject specialists within the school. Any complaints
about the curriculum should be discussed with the headteacher. |
