Ipplepen Primary School

Ipplepen Primary School is very fortunate in occupying one of the most spacious and attractive sites in the whole of Devon, with a large playground, extensive playing field and an environmental area with pond.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which closely matches the requirements of the National Curriculum. We cater for children of all ability and strive to ensure that every child reaches his/her full potential. Our standards in the three core subjects, English, mathematics and science, are consistently above the national average.

We have a host of extra curricular activities which include football, netball, tag rugby, kwik cricket, athletics, chess, music, French and an environmental club.

Each year we take part in the South Devon Music Proms at the English Riviera Centre and the South Devon Dance Festival in Totnes. We also enter the local sporting leagues and cup competitions and have been very successful in recent years.

But most of all, we try to create a friendly, stimulating atmosphere in which all children have the opportunity to thrive.

There have been many changes to the school curriculum since 1989. There is a great deal to cover, especially in Key Stage 2, but we try to ensure a breadth and balance for all age groups. The National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 (5 – 7) and Key Stage 2 (7 – 11) covers the same subjects. Literacy, Numeracy, Science, ICT (Information Communication Technology) and Religious Education are known as the core subjects. History, Geography, Art, Music, Design Technology and Physical Education are known as the Foundation subjects.

We have a range of extra curricular activities that take place at lunchtimes and after school, all of which are organised by the staff in their own time. Some activities are for Juniors only, some are for all children. Activities vary with the time or year and will include:-

There is also a FIT KIDS club and BALLET AND TAP classes, which are run by outside tutors. The tutors charge for these activities and details can be obtained from the school office. We encourage all children to participate in these activities as they provide an added dimension to the school curriculum.
