WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

Loddiswell Primary School has three classrooms, a craft/small teaching area, a multi-purpose hall, a library, a field, garden, playground, kiln and office accommodation. We are very fortunate indeed in having a rich variety of good quality resources, but we are actively seeking relocation and a new school building with joint accommodation for pre-school, on our school field.

We believe that we have a happy, caring school where every effort is made to provide the best possible education for your children.

AIMS

  • To stimulate an interest in, and love of, learning with each child, working towards their full potential.
  • To engender a personal expectation of good working habits and responsibility for quality, meeting the demands of the National Curriculum.
  • To ensure that the curriculum is as balanced and rich as possible, stimulating sporting, aesthetic, spiritual, artistic and creative development for each child.
  • To engender a sense of pride in personal achievement, in the school, and in Loddiswell, equipping each child with confidence and self-esteem, upon which to build individual achievement through life.
  • To equip each child with a clear moral framework from within which to view the world, encouraging consideration of the contributions of others and developing an understanding of the importance of individual differences.
  • To provide a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment, with shared ownership between staff, governors, parents and children and to provide a clear and consistent expectation of acceptable behaviour.
  • To forge a partnership with parents and families, encouraging wider links with the local community and building successful links with the pre-school and secondary phases of each child's life.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum of the school is organised to provide opportunity for all pupils to achieve their full potential. We feel that it is particularly important that every child should leave the primary phase of their education fully numerate and literate, and with the confidence and critical abilities to succeed in their secondary education but we never forget the importance of breadth and balance. As well as the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, together with History Geography and RE, we strive to provide quality teaching and learning in Music, Art, P.E., Design Technology and Information Technology. Whilst the National Curriculum defines most of what we should teach, we go beyond this wherever appropriate.

The National Curriculum is a legal requirement for all children. At the same time, the Education Authority has a legal duty to publish a statement outlining the curriculum that they believe Devon schools should be offering their children. It is known quite simply as the Devon Curriculum Statement. this has to be written in the light of the requirements of the national Curriculum. The Governing Body has the responsibility of looking at both the Devon Curriculum Statement as their own. From day to day the responsibility of putting into effect the school curriculum remains the responsibility of the Headteacher.

Policy for dealing with Complaints about the Curriculum Complaints can be made in writing or verbally. Parent should make contact with class teacher in the first instance. If unresolved, parent should contact the Headteacher. If the parent is still not satisfied, the parent should contact one of the 1st committee (personnel committee of the governors) at which point the complaint should be made in writing. In the last instance, parent should contact the Local Education Authority.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

At Loddiswell we are very fortunate that staff and parents give freely of their time to enable the children to experience and enjoy a wide range of activities which cannot be covered in lesson time. These have included musical activities, football, cricket, rounders, dance and magazine clubs. Parents are required to fill in a form for their child to attend an after school activity and adults keep a record of attendance. Children are expected to let the member of staff know if they are unable to attend.
