Our school aims to provide a rich, stimulating educational environment. A caring ethos underpins the curriculum and staff nurture a happy family-like atmosphere where knowledge and skills can be acquired within a framework of good moral behaviour.

School ownership is considered the right and privilege of the whole community. High expectations are fostered, not only of pupils, but also of staff, parents and governors.

The central purpose of all school activities is to help pupils to learn and to achieve.

The staff at our school aim:

The curriculum taught in the school is designed to be balanced and broadly based, promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils. The learning experiences provided are intended to prepare children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.

The primary aim of the school’s special education provision is to integrate children with Special Education Needs (SEN) into the academic and social life of the school and to enable pupils (from the least to the most able) to work to their full potential. Most children have a special educational need at some point during their school career and it is important to recognise and address this need as soon as possible. Needs may be related to emotional difficulties, learning or behaviour. Children who are very able have special needs as well as those experiencing difficulties in other areas. The school has its own Special Needs Policy based on the Code of Practice which outlines a set procedure to be adhered to by all state schools. Children for whom there is a concern are supported by the class teacher who consults with the school coordinator for SEN (Mrs Weatherley). Wherever possible additional help from within the school’s staffing resources is given (for instance a proportion of the Classroom Assistant’s 5–10 hours per week of support time).

Parents and friends are encouraged to extend the range of the school curriculum as well as helping with academic tasks such as reading. In addition to practical cookery sessions we have in the past included a few lessons of pottery and sewing.

A variety of educational trips are offered and we welcome a range of visitors to the school, e.g. the Police Liaison Officer etc.

After school swimming sessions, run by the Headteacher and her husband, who is a governor may be available daily during the second half of the Summer Term.

Children use the new village hall for indoor PE lessons.

French is taught to the whole school weekly. We are proud to employ a professional football coach who runs a lunchtime club. He includes some cricket and rounders when the weather allows. The school has After-School Clubs on three nights per week during the majority of weeks of the term. These include a Sports Club, art, craft, cookery and the opportunity of completing homework, doing extra reading etc, if parents wish.
