Southbrook was opened in 1967 and is situated in attractive grounds on the outskirts of Exeter. The school accommodates a range of pupils, some with moderate learning difficulties and some with more complex needs.

We aim to do the very best for your children in every way possible. Providing a caring and supportive environment where pupils can achieve their maximum potential in all areas, whilst offering opportunities to develop personally and socially, is a central focus of life at Southbrook. In doing this, we hope that when your son/daughter leaves Southbrook, he/she will be able to take his/her full place in society and lead an independent life.

We believe that an essential characteristic of success is stimulated by a strong partnership between pupils, parents, staff and governors and we aim to foster this at all times.

At Southbrook we provide Programmes of Study throughout the school, which are differentiated and meet the needs of individuals. Each Key Stage is linked and there is a variety of teaching and learning styles. The National Curriculum is followed and adapted as necessary in order for pupils to achieve their full academic potential. We endeavour to provide specialist teaching in all Key Stages. At Key Stage 4 all students are working towards externally accredited courses. Compulsory subjects include English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health Education.

Other subjects include History, Geography, Art, French, Design Technology, Music and Physical Education.
