Welcome to St. Edward's Website...

St. Edward’s is a Church of England Voluntary Controlled primary school of average size. The school serves a large urban estate and is part of the Eggbuckland Academic Council. The school was founded in 1846 and moved to its present site in 1971. It is a single storey site comprising of an infant and junior block which are separated by a hall. There is a large playing field, two playgrounds and a quiet area for our pupils. The school is currently working on a major building project, a new library and staffroom, which will provide much needed space.

Our school is a community school. The involvement by the church is seen as a real strength of our school.

AIMS

  • To enable the children in our care to become successful, confident independent learners
    • encouraging them to be investigative learners
    • to be aware of their own potential
    • to have an understanding of how they learn best
  • To ensure staff development, training and support has a direct impact on raising of standards and the quality of teaching and learning at our school.
  • To further support children’s learning and development we will continue to develop our links with the wider community and stakeholders.
  • To ensure the children have a good awareness of Multicultural Britain, the wider world and that global citizenship is promoted through our curriculum.
  • To continue to develop the cross curricular approach to teaching and learning therefore ensuring excellence and enjoyment of learning.
  • To continue to raise attainment in Literacy and Maths with particular focus on our more able children and our children in KS1.

CURRICULUM

Curriculum planning is organised to take account of continuity and progression in order to avoid unnecessary repetition. When planning their work, teachers take into account the Special Needs of all the children in their care. Whenever possible we plan to deliver a cross curricular ‘topic’ approach to teaching and learning. The Multi-Cultural curriculum is delivered through assemblies, our ‘One World ‘ theme week and through subjects such as Religious Education, Literacy, Maths, Art, Music, etc..

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

We regard after school clubs as an integral part of the education we offer. They take place during the lunch break or after school and depend upon the individual skills of the teachers, parents or community members who volunteer to assist. Recently our extra curricular activities have included : Breakfast Club, Football, Athletics, Tag Rugby, Taekwondo, Chess, Homework, Magazine Club, Choir, Music, Recorders, Running, Weaving and Sewing.
