| WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!
We are a Primary School with pupils 3 to 11 years of
age. We are situated in Tiverton, mid-Devon.
At present we have approximately 95 pupils full-time and 15 part-time nursery
pupils. Although we are a small primary school in terms of pupil numbers, we
are fortunate in having a large school site and spacious classrooms.
|
| At Wilcombe Primary School we work hard to make our school a warm and friendly place to be. We
welcome visits from prospective parents. We admit children to our nursery when they have reached their
third birthday. Children with their fifth birthdays between the 1st of September and the 28th February
are admitted to Reception in September. Children born between the 1st March and 31st of August are
admitted in January. Children new to the area will be admitted as soon as possible. |
| Wilcombe Primary is a school that holds the
development of the ‘whole child’ as a
fundamental belief. At the very heart of our
school is a philosophy of mutual care and
respect, for ourselves, each other and the
environment.
We provide opportunities for children to develop
intellectually, physically, emotionally and
spiritually. Our aim is to give children the skills,
confidence and knowledge to become healthy,
caring citizens, who are prepared for the
challenges beyond Wilcombe Primary School.
We are committed to maintaining the very
highest expectations for our children, ensuring
that each and every child achieves their
potential.
We offer a broad and balanced
curriculum that is accessible to all our learners
taking account of children’s specific needs. Our
children’s educational development is set on the
solid beginning offered through the excellent
integrated practice of our Foundation Unit. |
| National Curriculum coverage is rigorous, as
required by the Education Reform Act (1998). We
also believe it should be challenging and fun. We
are committed to a topic based learning approach
in which, where appropriate, subjects are linked.
This helps the children to make connections in
their own learning. Each topic starts with an
experience. This may be an educational visit, a
special visitor or event or a collection of artefacts.
In this way, the children gain first hand experience
which supports their learning. Some subject areas
lend themselves well to topic work but others do
not. These are taught discreetly or with a certain
degree of appropriate overlap. |
| Thanks to the efforts and commitment of the
teaching staff, a range of activities takes place
during the lunch hour and after school. These
activities presently include football, rugby,
netball, hockey, athletics, keep-fit, drama, dance,
environment, handicraft, chess, music, choir art
and French . Parents are notified in advance of
these activities if they take place after school
hours and a consent form will be sent for your
signature. Details of clubs currently on offer can
be located in the weekly newsletter. |
