Withycombe Raleigh C E Primary School
Withycombe Village Road, Withycombe Raleigh, EX8 3BA, UK Exmouth

Withycombe Raleigh C of E Primary School was established in 1865 on the site of the old St. Michael's Church. The original Victorian building now houses our main computer suite, where this website is updated and maintained by staff and students. Approximately 490 pupils attend school in Withycombe Village with us each year, aged between 5 years and 11 years. The school has a well established junior library, indoor hall, staffroom and administration block in the main building.

We are very proud of the sports and nature facilities at our school. There is an extensive sports field, often busy with the sounds of football, cricket and rugby. There is also plenty of activity in our learners swimming pool, next door to the nature walk and marsh land which our pupils have all helped to create. Pupils are encouraged to join the school choir or take up a musical instrument.

Mostly we hope that children who have attended our school will look back and remember a time of happiness and remember their experiences with pleasure.

We expect children to:

  • be polite, kind and helpful to others
  • behave properly at school and on visits
  • obey crossing patrol, dinner ladies and helpers
  • treat people with consideration and property with respect

During the course of each school day, children will be engaged in a variety of activities, covering different aspects of the curriculum.

As a school we believe in the education of the whole child, and we attach as much importance to their social development as to their academic progress. We aim to treat each child as an individual with his/her own special needs being catered for. Included within the school family are children with a range of Special Needs, a few of them being very special.

We are aiming to produce learning of quality and depth and in order to achieve this, children need to be given sufficient time. We then celebrate their achievements by the careful display of their work. The Statement of Intent embodies the principles that delivers the Curriculum at this school.

In addition to the usual sporting clubs such as football, tag-rugby, netball, cricket, etc., there are many other interests catered for by lunch-time and after-school activities. These include gardening, country dancing, gymnastics, KS2 library, chess, plus a host of musical groups, which include choir, recorder groups and orchestra. The staff, Governors and parents give generously of their free time to these and they form a very valuable extension to the school curriculum.
