16+ provision at Ashdown will provide stimulating educational opportunities with a vocational emphasis for both our own students and those from other institutions. Students of all abilities from level 1 to level 3 will be provided with a range of relevant, quality courses. As part of a clear 14-19 agenda, the educational vision and good practice from key stages 3 and 4 will continue, ensuring progression and continuity with clear links from key stage 4.
Specific yet flexible learning routes for individual learners will be offered, as will continued learning opportunities developed through structured learning programmes, leading to higher education opportunities and wider employment possibilities. There will be new and different choices, providing individual pathways, as an addition to traditional academic routes.
Identifying the value of independent advice and guidance, some students will choose to attend other institutions with courses more appropriate to their needs. A commitment to collaboration with other institutions for the benefit of Ashdown students will continue. Account will be taken of current employer needs, higher education opportunities and anticipated industry trends.
Targets to reduce NEET figures will be set. 16+ provision will enhance Ashdown’s development as both a technology and vocational college and provide new opportunities for staff, e.g. in preparing for the introduction of vocational diploma lines. Accordingly, Ashdown take a pivotal role and set the standard for Vocational Learning across three local authority areas.
