As a Business and Enterprise College, we pride ourselves on providing girls with an excellent twenty-first century education which inspires them to greater achievements and successes throughout life. Avonbourne is a school with a well-earned reputation for a secure, caring but well disciplined environment where the students are characterised by their integrity, determination and compassion.

We are a happy school. Each student is supported, encouraged and enabled to develop into a mature young woman and to become a responsible, independent global citizen who can take an active part in a progressive, modern society.

Learning at Avonbourne reflects the most recent educational research about how students learn most effectively, allowing all students of whatever ability every opportunity to reach their potential. We recognise that students learn in different ways and a range of teaching styles are utilised. Recent foci have been on developing thinking skills, entrepreneurial learning and embedding Assessment for Learning across the curriculum. Your daughter will have a tutor to monitor their progress and in Year 9, 10 and 11, students are assigned a mentor to support them through the option and GCSE process.

We strive to meet the needs of all our students, with the most able having the opportunity to study additional examinations and those who find learning more difficult having the support of an experienced team of teachers and teaching assistants. We aim to develop lively, enquiring minds and provide a learning community of which we are all proud.

Our curriculum is led by dedicated, experienced staff who are able to offer a wide range of courses. In Years 7, 8 and 9 student follow a broad range of courses in line with the National Curriculum, and then in Years 10 and 11 they are given the opportunity to specialise in the subjects they most enjoy and those which will be relevant for their futue career. For the more able students some AS level courses are offered. We aim to meet the needs of employers by providing vocationally based courses including Business, Health and Social Care, Retail and Travel and Tourism. In partnership with other providers we offer a range of college based courses and opportunities for extended work placements.

Our status as a Business and Enterprise College enables us to provide your daughter with a wide variety of learning experiences whilst developing enterprise and work related skills. Our goal is to prepare our students to be the next generation of employees and entrepreneurs for the local, national and international economy. We aim to develop the skills and qualities needed to enable them to play an active role as citizens in the 21st century.

In all years Enterprise permeates the curriculum and is evident across all subject areas. At Key Stage 3 students work towards an Enterprise Diploma, an initiative supported by the Portman Building Society. This award encourages and rewards valuable learning opportunities including teamwork, communication and an understanding of personal finance. In addition, there are a wide variety of enterprising activities that take place within lessons and beyond the curriculum which foster an entrepreneurial spirit.

At Avonbourne we view education as a life long process that continues beyond the classroom. Outside of lessons we provide a wide range of extra curricular activities which all students can enjoy. If your daughter has a particular talent or interest they will be able to pursue it to the highest standards possible.

Our reputation for excellence in the Arts is well established, with hundreds of students taking part in a range of activities including drama and art clubs, dance performances, choir, orchestra and bands, music and vocal tuition and whole school productions such as Fame, Bugsy Malone, Oliver and Grease. Avonbourne students participate in the community and have the opportunity to work with professional artists and performers.

Our extensive playing fields and sports facilities provide an ideal environment for a huge range of sporting activities to take place. A great many Avonbourne students have gained representative honours at County, National and International level. Among the many clubs we offer are gymnastics, trampolining, badminton, football, netball, self-defence, hockey, athletics and tennis. In addition we offer the Junior Sports Leader and Junior Dance Leader awards and some students have the opportunity to gain coaching certificates in a sport of their choice. We have been delighted to be granted the Sportsmark Award in recognition of provision across the school.
