WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL
Burton Bradstock is a Voluntary Controlled, Church of England school. The school is owned and funded by Dorset County Council and administered and controlled by the Dorset Education Partnership - the Local Education Authority, and managed by the Governing Body in conjunction with the Headteacher and staff.
Burton Bradstock is a rural primary school taking children from the parishes of Burton Bradstock, Shipton Gorge and Chilcombe. It covers the age range of 4 - 11 years and most children progress to Sir John Colfox School in Bridport. Our school is a member of the Bridport Cluster of schools, that work closely together to give opportunities to children to broaden their education through co-operation.
At Burton Bradstock School we believe that….

As a Christian school we place Christian values at the very heart of all we do.
To make best use of the financial resources at our disposal and to provide a balance and continuity the school is divided into two departments, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and four classes.
Class I and 2 - Years R, 1 and 2
Class 3 - Years 3 and
Class 4 - Years 5 and 6
The two Infant classes are located on the ground floor and have folding interconnecting doors, which allow the two rooms to open up into one large room. Due to the nature of the small school the children are split, with reception and some Yr. I children in Class I and the other Yr. 1 and all Yr.2 children in Class 2. Staff plan together to ensure that in Yr. 1 children receive the same curriculum.
Curriculum is delivered through a thematic or topic approach. This means that the class teacher, following an agreed programme that ensures that all National Curriculum subjects are taught, selects a topic, such as OURSELVES. Using this title the teacher devises a scheme of work that will last for part, or all of a term. The skill of the good teacher is then to develop the topic in such a way as to engage the interest of all the children and to make the learning purposeful and relevant.
Children, like adults, learn best when they are stimulated, excited and challenged by the activity they are engaged in.
The School Curriculum is composed of 9 subjects – 5 Core Subjects and 6 Foundation subjects.
