WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!
Corfe Hills School is a purpose built comprehensive school, which has been planned for the education of students aged between 13-18. The design, construction and continuing improvement programme make it a very pleasant teaching and learning environment for both students and staff.
In addition, to a full range of modern classrooms there are well equipped and resourced specialist rooms. The technology provision includes a large specialist area, two food technology rooms, four other technology workshops, three graphics studios and an electronic room with specialist equipment. Thirteen well equipped science laboratories and eight newly built maths rooms both have data projectors and Smartboards in every room for use with specialist teaching resources.
At Corfe Hills School we have three core values
For some, academic success can mean basic accreditation of numeracy and literacy for others it can mean extension to the highest possible levels including an opportunity (about 30 students a year) to take Open University degree modules.
- That every child will maximise their academic progress
- That every child will seize the opportunity to have a rich and broad education
- That every child will develop their ability to be considerate of others.
The school has a very broad range of extra-curricular activities, trips and visits. Last year students went to Russia, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, USA, Greece, Italy and New Zealand. This year the group will include a small party visiting Ghana.
The school has an old fashioned ethos that combines insistence on good uniform, good routines and high standards with consideration for others.
Each year the school aims to further improve
In a school with already high standards staff are encouraged to challenge mediocrity and menace complacency.
- the quality of teaching, making it lively, active and dynamic
- the quality of learning, making it personal and appropriate for the learner
- the quality of assessment, giving clear advice to students on how to progress
|TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE STATUS|
Corfe Hills School has a visible and distinctive ethos related to Technology Status. This is evident throughout the school through its use of ICT to raise standards across the curriculum, its strong technological focus and its strengths in Technology, Science and Maths.
It is this ethos, coupled with excellent teaching and facilities, that have raised the post 16 take up of subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Graphics and Textiles. Many students extend further their enjoyment of these subjects and progress to further/higher education or further training in these areas according to their abilities, aptitudes and ambitions.
Our curriculum at Corfe Hills School focuses on the qualities and skills learners need to succeed in school and beyond. We are pleased to be able to provide, in addition to the core subjects, a comprehensive breadth of curriculum opportunities at each key stage. These are offered to provide a personalised pathway of learning for every student.
Learning and participation in every subject at Corfe Hills Schools contributes to the achievement of the curriculum aims for our students to become:
- Successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
- Confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
- Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society
All students at Corfe Hills School are actively encouraged to get involved in a wide range of extra curricular activities.
The range of activities and number of activities on offer are extensive and range from: visiting the Battlefields as part of a History Trip to participating in the most recent Sports Tour to New Zealand. Alternatively, students could be involved in participating in a Subject Conference in London to speaking at our School Student Council, travelling to Cern to experience the worlds largest Particle Physics Laboratory or visiting New Look Design Studios in Weymouth. Back at school there are a number of thriving extra after school activities most days to include sport, music, dance and young enterprise activities.
Corfe Hills offers an exceptional Sixth Form experience both in terms of academic success and in opportunities beyond the classroom. The schools Inspectorate (Ofsted) described sixth form academic work as “very effective” whilst extra-curricular activities were regarded as “making an outstanding contribution to students' personal development”. Not surprisingly we were similarly delighted that the Learning Skills Council identified that our students exceeded their projected A level grades more than those of any other school or college in Poole, Bournemouth and Dorset. Perhaps this is partly an outcome of the range of courses we offer; with over 40 on offer students are very likely to find courses that suit them, their abilities and aspirations.
Such clear success has ultimately resulted in an increasing demand for sixth form places. We particularly welcome new students to the sixth form who now make up more than 30% of our numbers, joining us from schools locally and further afield including mainland Europe. This injection of new blood adds a valuable extra dimension to student life.
