Gillingham School
Hardings Lane, SP8 4QP, UK Gillingham

This is a large comprehensive school, situated in the small town of Gillingham in Dorset, with a large sixth form of 375 students. Pupils are largely White British, with few from other ethnic heritages. The social background of pupils is broadly average, whilst the proportion of those with learning difficulties is below average. The school is popular with parents and is oversubscribed.

Gillingham is an outstanding school, where standards are high and pupils make excellent progress. It offers excellent value for money. The school is characterised by a commitment to shared values, a strong sense of community and the confident belief of both staff and pupils that they can achieve.

The extra-curricular Creative Arts programme at Gillingham School has sought to bring an exciting programme of performing artists to our community of North Dorset. We have presented such companies as: Kneehigh Theatre, Miracle Theatre, Theatre Alibi and Naive Theatre,Jaleo Flamenco Dance, Brekete African Dance, Motionhouse and Attik Contemporary Dance Theatres and Mujenkyo Japanese Drummers.

Young musicians of The Dorset Philharmonic, The David Gordon Trip and The International Jazz Quartet of Christian Garrick have all performed to large and appreciative audiences at our school venue.

The students and staff of Gillingham School also present an annual series of concerts and theatre performance that draw in large audiences and often support major charities.

These arts events have all been hosted by staff and students to serve our wider audiences and to make the Arts available and accessible to everyone.

To achieve this we are grateful for the patronage and sponsorship our local business community have given to help us maintain and extend the range and quality of Arts we can present to the many audiences of North Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset.
