In each of the year groups there are three mixed ability classes. In Numeracy, the classes are organised into ability sets in years 4, 5 and 6. In the rest of the curriculum, children will work in a variety of ways: independently; mixed ability groups; ability groups; whole class; depending on the activity
Each year the classes are regrouped by teachers before they move on to the next year group. There are many good educational reasons for this practice,
The balance of abilities can change during the year.
Certain groupings of children need to be altered if they are not conducive to good learning.
Children with particular special needs have to be distributed in a balanced manner so that effective use of Teaching Assistants (TA’s) can be made.
It is often good for children to work with a new group of people.
Good working friendships will be kept together and of course we will discuss such issues with parents if necessary. Children and parents will be informed about new classes in early July
The school day is from 08:50am to 03:15pm. There is a mid-morning break from 10:45am to 11:00am and a lunch hour from 12:05pm to 12:55pm. Children eat their packed lunches in their classroom, supervised by 7 Midday Supervisors.
Children are allowed to come straight into the school building before the day begins, provided they get on with something quietly.
Otherwise they can play on the playground until a member of staff sends them in to school at 08:50am
Parents - please do not enter the school through the children’s entrances; please walk down the driveway to the main entrance.
