We aim to provide opportunities for learning that develop the children's abilty to become effective communicators through skills such as listening, speaking, reading and writing for a wide range of purposes.
Literacy is a core subject in the National Curriculum and in Key Stage One we use the National Literacy Framework as the basis for implementing the statutory requirements of the Programmes of Study for English.
We also provide a creative approach in teaching literacy whenever possible, which includes drama and role-play, multi-media and art.
As part of the Foundation Stage curriculum, Reception children use the Early Learning Goals as part of their literacy and language development. They are given opportunities to talk and communicate in a widening range of situations, respond to adults and each other, listen carefully when appropriate and have opportunities to explore, enjoy and learn through a language-rich environment.
