ABOUT US

At Sherborne Prep School, we are encouraged to think imaginatively, to work independently and to care for others and for our world. By learning to do our best, we are able to achieve our potential and experience the real joy of learning.

Whatever your child's talents and interests, we will find them and foster them. We strive to build confidence and a positive attitude. Your child will gain skills that will last for life: independence, initiative, honest values and the ability to think.

PREP SCHOOL

We are an independent co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3 - 13 years.

Founded in 1885, the School is set in twelve acres of attractive grounds and gardens in the historic town of Sherborne which is well-served by road and rail links. The School has a long and distinguished history as a leading preparatory school in the south-west, and an enviable academic reputation as a feeder to many of England's leading public schools. Sherborne Preparatory School enjoys a close association with its two neighbours, Sherborne School and Sherborne School for Girls.

PRE-PREP

"A Great Place To Start"

The Pre-Prep department opened in 1995 and now has a pupil roll of over seventy. It has been characterised by the happiness as well as the success of its pupils and enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a school that offers a wide, up-to-date exciting curriculum within a caring, ordered and friendly environment.

The school admits children from the age of three to seven and has its own fully equipped, purpose-built classrooms with experienced and well-qualified staff providing an excellent ratio of teachers to children.

We promote a holistic education where the spiritual, moral, social, physical and creative aspects of a child’s development are nurtured as well as the cognitive.

BOARDING

Boarding at Sherborne Prep is great fun! We have two boarding houses, Acreman for the boys and Netherton for the girls. The staff aim to make boarding as enjoyable as possible and there is a real ‘family feel’ to both houses.

During the week, the boarders have the opportunity, after prep and supper, to take part in various games and activities including; cricket, football, uni-hock, table tennis, board games, scalextric as well as other activities. We then have toast and hot chocolate before bedtime.

On Saturdays, if boarders are not involved in matches, we normally go out for a walk and go to Sherborne for some tuck shopping.

On Sundays boarders can stay in bed longer than normal and enjoy a continental style breakfast. This is usually followed by a chapel service, activities, Sunday lunch and then a visit to somewhere exciting. Recent visits have included a trip to Cheddar Gorge Caves, Lazerage, Ten-Pin Bowling, Moors Valley Country Park, Splashdown and fossil hunting at Lyme Regis. At Christmas, the boarders and their parents or guardians have a special Sunday lunch followed by Secret (Agent) Santa and a party.

The boarders are looked after by the Head of Boarding, a Housemistress (Netherton), Matron (Acreman) and three Gap students from Australia and New Zealand. They all make sure that boarders are happy, courteous, independent and proud of being a boarder. We always aim to make sure that both boarding houses offer a friendly, safe, and enjoyable experience for all boarders whether they are full or occasional.
