| ABOUT US
Southill School was opened in October 1973. It was designed as three units and a reception classroom opening on to a central hall. Each unit has two traditional teaching areas. Between the teaching areas is a "practical" area where children from both classes can paint, design, make models, do woodwork, clay work, needlework, make music and listen to stories, according to the timetable rota. Each classroom also has its own entrance, toilets and coat trolleys. The Reception Class has its own self-contained classroom.

| Before a child starts school we invite parents / guardians into school to meet the Infant Staff and exchange information. Following this visit children and a parent / guardian are invited to come to Southill PIP Club ( Pre Infant Programme Club ). This is to enable parents and children to familiarise themselves with the staff, the other children and the building. The PIP Club is held in the Reception Classroom on Friday afternoons for a number of weeks preceding the term in which the child starts school officially.
Children are admitted to school on the following basis and providing conditions allow:
5th Birthday between 1st September to 31st August - child commences part-time from September ( mornings only ). Child commences full time from January.
When children come to us from other schools, we aim to introduce them to their class, teacher and unit before starting so that we are not strangers to them when they finally arrive. Please feel free to arrange a preliminary visit.

| School uniform is a white shirt or blouse, black/grey trousers/shorts, grey pinafore dress, royal blue sweatshirt or cardigan, white or grey socks, black or brown shoes (sandals in summer) In summer girls may wear a blue small check (5 mm) dress, optional pattern. PE clothing can be kept safely in a bag approximately 330 mm x 400 mm with a 600 mm cord. We ask parents to purchase black shorts and a white T-shirt. Juniors require trainers or plimsolls, shorts and T-shirt. Infants need plimsolls with elastic or velcro type fasteners. "Southill School" polo shirts and other items of uniform are available from the National School Wear Shop, Weymouth. In sunny weather children are encouraged to wear hats and cover up to protect themselves. Sunscreens are also encouraged. It is helpful if ALL ARTICLES OF CLOTHING ARE CLEARLY NAMED.
