St. Michael's C of E Primary is a voluntary controlled primary school situated in the centre of Bournemouth.
Our Headmaster is Mr Kennedy, and our Deputy Head is Mrs Byrom
The school is situated between Somerville Road and West Hill Road, near Bournemouth West Cliff and the town centre. There has been a school on the site since 1878. It was a Church Aided School until 1954 when it was decided to make it a Voluntary Controlled School. This means that the school is funded and abides by the policies set by the Borough Council. However the links with the church are strong and there are active church members on the Governing Body.
For games lessons such as football, rounders and hockey, pupils are transported by bus to Portchester School. Despite our restricted space on site, St Michael's participates in all the town leagues and competitions. During the last year, the school has won trophies in football, rounders and athletics. We have an annual sports day which involves all the children - this is usually held at Meyrick Park.
As a Church of England, voluntary controlled school, it is our aim to provide everyone at St Michael's with a happy, stimulating educational environment in which our Christian values are taught. We will encourage development including self-discipline, respect for others and their religious beliefs. We will seek to fulfill each individual's education and social potential through encouragement, opportunity and spiritual guidance.
- The school endeavours to provide the opportunity for each child to reach his or her full potential and the opportunity to develop, both as a well balanced individual and as a responsible member of society.
- To help pupils develop lively, enquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally and to apply themselves to the tasks and physical skills.
- To help pupils to use language and number effectively.
- To help pupils to develop personal moral values, respect for religious values, and a tolerance to other races, religions and ways of life.
