Mossgiel Primary School is set in a large, open area and serves the community of Linlathen and Honeygreen. The building is bright and welcoming and as well as 5 mainstream classes, has an integrated support unit and a new nurture unit which started in April 2005.

During morning intervals on Tuesdays and Fridays, the playground is divided into 6 areas for different play activities:

Quiet area - pupils can draw / read / play board games / chat

Activities area - pupils can skip / play elastics / small ball games

Football area - pupils practice football skills

Organised games - parachute games / outdoor games

Chalk drawing - pupils draw on small boards

Free choice - for those who wish to do their own thing!

Each Play Area is supervised by Playground Monitors from P6/7 who have been trained in teaching the younger pupils how to play a variety of games.

We recognise the importance of exercise and encourage all of our pupils to take part in a variety of sporting activities.

  • After School Club
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Computing
  • Club
  • Dancing
  • Football
  • Guitar
  • Hockey
  • Lunch Club
  • Netball
  • Piano
  • Recorder
  • Rugby

Circle Time can take place with a whole class or a smaller group. The teacher, along with the pupils, establishes a structure of clear ground rules. Pupils engage in a combination of games, rounds and open discussion.

Circle Time provides pupils with the opportunity to experience positive relationships. The games and exercise used are designed to foster a sense of the class as a community.

These sessions are also used to develop self-esteem, listening and speaking skills as well as co-operation.
