ABOUT US

Newfield Primary is situated on the west side of the village of Stonehouse. The school was opened in 1979. It is a single-storey, semi-open plan building, which has 10 primary classes and a nursery. At present we have a roll of 315, which includes 40 nursery children.

Our aim is to provide a stimulating educational environment which provides a broad, balanced curriculum to encourage the children to attain their full potential in a happy, caring atmosphere.

In our recent HMI report we were commended for the ethos of the school. This ethos is a direct result of children, parents, staff and the community working together to achieve our aim.

NURSERY

In our Nursery class we hope your child will be secure and happy. We hope to provide a variety of opportunities through play, which will help your child to develop certain skills. We will be following the Pre -5 curricular Framework to achieve this and hope that you will be our partners in your child's learning.

Our Aim

The aim of all in Newfield Nursery is to work toward a service, which provides a happy, safe and flexible environment, which allows every child to develop to their full potential.

The Nursery Class will be open from 9am - 11.45am for the morning session and 1.00pm - 3.45pm for the afternoon session from Monday to Friday. Please ensure children are collected promptly to allow the staff to clear up and set up the activities for the next session. Since the nursery is part of the school the class will follow the school holidays (a list is enclosed for your information.

Within the nursery at Newfield Primary we follow the guidance from ‘The Framework for Children 3 to 5 (SOEID 1999)’ and Learning for Living (South Lanarkshire Curriculum Document for 0-5 1999).

In both these documents the curriculum is outlined in five main areas.
