ABOUT US

The school is an attractive stone building, established in 1839. It is set in grounds comprising a large playground, grassed areas and gardens to the rear. The gardens contain wildlife areas and a pond to enhance the children’s study. The school’s recently established “Green Team” (comprising of pupils, staff and parents) have worked extremely hard to enhance these areas further.

Our school is a primary school catering for children from 4-11 years of age. We are a small school which means that every individual can be catered for in a safe and stimulating environment. We pride ourselves on our high academic achievements yet at the same times believe that music, art and physical education are of equal importance in the development of each child.

AIMS

  • To create an environment in which children can experience the pleasure that comes from success in learning, thereby building self-confidence and self-motivation.
  • To help children acquire intellectual skills and apply them at levels commensurate with their ability.
  • To strive to develop children’s initiative, independence and sense of responsibility.
  • To encourage children to have respect for others and to help the community.
  • To prepare for the demands of a rapidly changing society with due regard for equality of opportunity.
  • To provide a climate in which enquiring minds are encouraged to question and investigate and in which creativity can flourish.
  • To develop good relationships within and beyond the school and to recognize the importance of partnership and communication.
  • To develop a positive attitude towards education as a continuing process.

FOUNDATION STAGE

We are extremely fortunate to have been awarded a grant to provide a state-of-the art foundation stage setting. This, coupled with our reception teacher being recognized as a “Leading Foundation Stage Teacher” provides an excellent start for the children at Adlington Primary School.

Activities covering a wide range of learning opportunities are planned around the six areas of learning, taking into account the children’s interests, learning needs and ability. Within this framework, continuous play is used both indoor and outdoor to enhance the children’s learning. In this well planned environment, children can learn through play to explore their ideas and experiences in new and imaginative ways.

With the use of a range of positive behaviour management strategies are used to create the right classroom ethos; where children feel safe, are motivated, their contributions are valued and they will achieve their full potential as independent learners.

KS1 & KS2

At Adlington Primary School, at both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, children follow the National Curriculum in all subjects. Statutory guidance is fully adopted and is included in all teachers planning.

The school is lucky to have an extensive library as well as a computer suite in which all computers are connected to the internet. Children work in whole class situations as well as small groups and individually for more intensive tuition.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

At Adlington, many different activities are offered at various times throughout the year and may include:

Rugby Training Football Skills Gymnastics Netball Tennis Coaching Table Tennis Coaching Homework Club Computer Club Chess Club Green Team
