ABOUT US

Alt Primary School was formed from the amalgamation of the two separate Infant and Junior Schools in January 1990. Being a through Primary School for 3-11 year- olds enables us to really get to know the children and meet their educational needs. We believe in high educational standards which will equip children well for life in a secondary school and at work. We aim to follow the National Curriculum in an interesting and effective way which motivates children to learn and be successful.

AIMS

In order to make it possible for each child to realise the very best outcomes, in all areas of development, the aim of the school was thought out very carefully.

Alt Primary School is at the heart of the community where teachers and parents work together in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust, to ensure that all children are valued, and feel themselves to be valued, enabling the best possible educational achievements.

We actively promote an environment where children care for themselves, each other, the school and the community, and are happy responsible and self-disciplined members of society.

CURRICULUM

We aim to provide an education for our children which promotes the highest possible standards. Everything your child does in our school is part of this curriculum. The total experience is designed within the National Curriculum to develop skills and attainment in the widest sense.

The National Curriculum

The National Curriculum requires that children will be taught the following subjects:

Core subjects Maths, English, Science, I.C.T and R.E.

Foundation subjects History, Geography, Technology, Art, Music, Physical Education. As a school we prioritise P.S.E. (Personal & Social Education) and Citizenship.

Some subjects are taught in an integrated manner and across the curriculum, with great thought given to the planning, in order to meet the attainment targets of the National Curriculum. The school implement the Literacy and Numeracy Hours in line with Government recommendations.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

We provide a variety of out of school activities which would be impossible without the goodwill of teachers and support staff. These include a range of sports, chess and other activities. Activities are changed on a termly basis, children and parents are notified accordingly. When it is necessary for us to buy in expertise from outside the school the children may be asked to pay for these sessions.

Extra-Curriculum Clubs are run by a combination of teachers and non-teachers.
