| ABOUT US
Anchorsholme Primary School was opened in 1967 and is housed in a modern spacious
building in a pleasant residential area to the north of Blackpool. The school caters for
children between the ages of four and eleven years and there are currently 623 pupils on
roll. The teaching areas have been so arranged that the infant and junior departments are
integrated yet are still able to maintain their own special identity within a modern
primary school. A new purpose built early years unit, housing three classrooms, was built
in 1999 and a five-classroom KS2 extension was completed in October 2001. A third
major building programme to improve the school’s reception reae and to allow covered
access to our Foundation Stage classrooms was completed in 2004.

| Everyone in the school is encouraged to develop to his or her full academic and creative
potential and to think, question, discuss and evaluate.
The school promotes personal and social development. Everyone is encouraged to join in a
wide variety of experiences in addition to those associated with the classroom. The pursuit
of ideals and qualities such as enthusiasm is encouraged.
Co-operation and care for others is fostered. Everyone is encouraged to explore his or her
responsibilities at home, at school and in the local and global environment.
The school is staffed and resourced with this in mind and the curriculum is planned to
offer the widest possible range of opportunities. Constructive parental involvement in the
life of the school is encouraged and all parents are welcome to contact and to visit the
school as they wish. |
| Facilities within the school are excellent with each of the twenty-one classrooms having
its own interactive whiteboard, practical area, sink and storage space. Toilet and
cloakroom facilities are provided for each class base.
The school is fortunate to have two assembly halls, a dedicated ICT suite, a multipurpose
training room, a purpose built library, a reading room, a drama and audio visual
aid room, a medical room, a curriculum resource area, a print room and a Deputy
Headteacher's room.
Gardens surround the main building and a greenhouse is sited close to the schoolhouse. A
corner of the grounds has been developed as an outside classroom and conservation area
to support various curriculum projects. There are extensive hard and grass play areas
within the school environment. |
| At the present time there are twenty-four full-time teachers (including Headteacher) and
four part-time teachers on the staff of the school. In addition, six full-time, fully qualified
nursery assistants, a learning mentor, fifteen part-time teaching assistants and a librarian
are employed by the school.
The Deputy Headteacher, Key Stage 2 Assistant
Headteacher, and part-time teachers do not have responsibility for a class but provide
curriculum cover throughout the school.
At the present time the infant department contains nine mixed ability classes and the
junior department twelve mixed ability classes.
The school has Training School status and is an Associate School of the St Martin’s
College Lancaster, from where students are assigned each year as part of their initial
teacher training.
The school has formal curriculum partnership agreements with five other Blackpool
primary schools and with Montgomery High School, Blackpool and Hodgson High
School, Poulton. Anchorsholme is the lead primary school in the Tower Network
Learning Community. |
