| ABOUT US
Arkholme C of E Primary School was built in 1877 with extensions built in
1961, 1989, and 2000. The school is now spacious and well equipped, with
attractive grounds, caring for the academic, social, physical, artistic, cultural
and spiritual needs of its children. We use the Village Hall for Physical
Education and have the use of a large field adjacent to the hall.
The school accommodates up to 100 children aged between 4 and 11, who
are grouped into four classes. There is also an Ofsted registered pre-school
nursery attached to the school which takes children from the age of 3 years.
Arkholme School is an Anglican primary school that caters for girls and boys
between the ages of four and eleven. Most of the children live within the
parishes of Whittington, Arkholme and Gressingham, although we do have a
few children from farther afield.
|
| The Ofsted registered Nursery, which is controlled by a Governors Voluntary
Management Committee, is attached to the school and has places for a total of 16
children. The children can start to attend the term after their third birthday and funding
is available through the local authority. The nursery children attend Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday morning between 9 am and 12.45 pm. A hot snack is available at
a small extra charge. On a Thursday the nursery children combine with the Reception
Children for a Physical Education lesson in the Village Hall.
The nursery is well resourced and has a secure outdoor play area. |
| We provide a broad, balanced curriculum to suit the needs of the children attending
our school and use a variety of teaching methods. The National Curriculum is covered in
all its aspects. The core subjects English, Mathematics, Science and ICT are challenging
to the children at their particular level. The children are also involved in a wide range
of activities in History, Geography, Technology, Art, Music, Physical Education and
Religious Education.
Pupils are taught in 4 classes grouped
according to age. Staff; regularly review the
content of the curriculum, its development and
its policies. The children follow programmes of
study at the foundation stage, Key Stage 1 and
Key Stage 2. |
| The school offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, which take place at
lunchtime and after school.
Music is very popular. There are three recorder groups and children are given the
opportunity to play brass, woodwind and stringed instruments from year 4. Very
quickly the children are able to join the school band and take The Royal School of Music
external examinations.
In the area of sport children attend the school swimming club held at Carnforth Pool,
attend Football club, Cricket club and we participate in inter-school competitions in all
aspects of sport. The children also have the opportunity to attend the language Latin
Minimus Club, train for cross country running, Chess, Choir and Computer clubs which
are also very popular. |
