ABOUT US

Austwick Primary School & Nursery is situated within the Yorkshire Dales National Park in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is a Voluntary Aided Church of England School for children aged 3 -10 years.

Austwick School & Nursery serves Austwick, Wharfe, Feizor, Lawkland and Eldroth. We also have children from out of the area, please contact us at the school for details of our admissions policy.

Austwick Foundation Unit opened in September, 2006 and caters for up to 13 three and four year olds together with Reception-aged children, all working within the Foundation stage curriculum. The Foundation Unit is staffed by a Nursery teacher and a Higher Level teaching assistant. It is a purpose-built facility that is stimulating and vibrant. The children can experience a wide range of play-based activities that are fun and exciting. The children are encouraged to be independent and can engage in play indoors and outdoors, as they wish.

The children are taught in a mixed age class of Year one and Year two pupils by an experienced early years teacher. The pupils are supported in their work by a Higher Level Teaching Assistant.

Children in years three, four and five are taught in a mixed age class by the Head teacher. A part time teacher supports the work of this class as does a Higher level Teaching Assistant. We are now able to offer French lessons to all KS2 pupils for 30 minutes each week

During 2007, children were offered the following activities;

Cricket coaching followed by a tournament.

Tennis coaching - making use of village tennis courts.

Tag Rugby coaching – tuition and a tournament organised by Settle College.

Cross Country running – school teams took part in two inter schools races.

Football - Teams entered into Langcliffe Carnival, Ingleton Tournament & Settle Gala

10K Running Club - all pupils encouraged to run 1 km each week
