The 1988 Education Reform Act prescribed by Law that the ten subjects of the National Curriculum plus Religious Education be taught in all schools throughout England and Wales. All children at Avondale School therefore undertake a basic Curriculum of Mathematics, English, Science, Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, ICT, P.E. and Religious Education.
The Curriculum at Avondale School is balanced and broadly based. It does not concern itself entirely with the basic subjects above but in addition, seeks to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the School. For example, every class studies Personal, Health and Social Education for one session every week. This helps children to discuss the serious issues which affect them in their every day lives.
