| ABOUT US
Barnoldswick Church of England School is a County Primary School providing education for children aged 4+ to 11.
The School, though a state school, is called a “Church of England Controlled School”. This means that the School operates as a County School but two of our governors are appointed by the Church and the Vicar is automatically a member of the Governing Body.
We hope that parents who send their children to this School are sympathetic to its Christian character.
The School, to be found in York Street, has a long tradition of educating children, dating back to 1883.
Currently, there are 195 children on roll and the annual intake of “New Entrants” has, for the last few years, been around 30.
The School has 7 classrooms, and a mezzanine level housing the IT suite and library. The Hall is used as a dining room. There are two outdoor play areas.
|
| It is our intention to create a happy, caring and supportive environment in which the education of each child can flourish. Education is concerned with personal development. There are a number of distinct facets: intellectual, physical, moral, spiritual, social, aesthetic and emotional. We aim to provide a broad curriculum to nurture growth in all these areas. We recognise that the rate of development in each of these areas varies from child to child, therefore our curriculum and teaching methods are designed to help each child realise his or her maximum potential.
|
| The School curriculum aims to provide opportunities for all pupils to learn and to achieve to their full potential. The curriculum also aims to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral social and cultural development and prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.
|
| Morning school begins at 9 am and ends at 12 noon. Afternoon school for Juniors begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 3.35 p.m. and for Infants, begins at 1.15 p.m. and ends at 3.30 p.m. We do ask parents not to send their children to school before 8.45 am. Schools are not legally responsible for children before 8.45 am. There is no supervision available for children who come to School before that time.
Increasingly, teachers are involved in a great deal of work preparation before school begins and they need uninterrupted time to do this. On fine mornings children play in the playground until 8.55 am. When they are brought in to start the day. On wet or very cold mornings we do ask for your co-operation by sending your children to school as close to 8.55 am as possible when they will he allowed to come into school to begin work quietly in their classrooms. If these arrangements cause problems in your particular circumstances, please contact Mrs. Heaton. We will do our best to help.
The number of teaching hours per week (excluding the daily act of collective worship, registration time and breaks) is 21 hours 15 minutes for Infants and 22 hours 30 minutes for Juniors.
