ABOUT US

Recognising its historic foundation in 1684, the school will preserve and develop its religious character and association with the Church of England that has continued since it's foundation and will work in partnership with the Churches in the community.

The School identifies with its rural surroundings. In June 2000 it was awarded full status as an Eco School. The school prides itself on its ecological and environmental work. Much work has been undertaken by the children to develop the school field. This has been achieved by raising funds through successfully entering Eco-competitions.

AIMS

  • Create a warm and friendly environment for learning in which all are valued and supported.
  • Promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of each child.
  • Encourage individually and help all children to develop their self-respect, independence and integrity.
  • Nurture the sense of community.
  • Strengthen the partnership between school, home and the parish.
  • Prepare the children for the opportunities and responsibilities which they may experience as they grow, mature and develop.

ADMISSIONS

Parents are welcome to visit the school and those considering sending their children to Brabin’s Endowed School are invited to make an appointment to see the Headteacher. The Governors welcome applications for places at the school. The school provides places for a total of not more than 70 children. (The number of places available for 2005-2006 2006-2007 is 10.)

ORGANISATION

The School is organised into two Key Stage Groups.

The lower school consists of Reception aged children, following the ‘Early Learning Goals’ and Year 1 and 2 pupils who follow the National Curriculum. The children's learning is planned by a full-time teacher who is supported by a qualified nursery nurse

The upper school consists of Years 3, 4, 5 & 6. These children follow programmes of study from the National Curriculum, appropriate to their age and ability. The children are taught as two groups for Literacy, French, Mathematics, Science, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Music and Physical Education (PE).

CURRICULUM

The Core Subjects taught are English (Literacy), Mathematics (Numeracy), Science and Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The Foundation Subjects taught are History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Music and Physical Education.

In addition to these subjects, since September 2003, we have introduced French lessons for all pupils.

At Brabin’s School we believe there is much more to ‘Education’ in its widest sense than the pursuit of a narrowly academic curriculum. Nevertheless, we do place a very high value upon the development of skills, knowledge and concepts in the subjects of the National Curriculum.

Priority is given to the teaching of literacy and numeracy and the development of Thinking Skills.
