ABOUT US

At Brockholes Wood Community Primary we are committed to developing each member of the school to their full potential as an individual, and as a member of society made up of diverse cultures, languages, religions and lifestyles. This is achieved through the provision of a wide range of activities within a stimulating and inclusive environment.

CURRICULUM

The curriculum is comprised of all the opportunities for learning provided by the school. It includes the formal programme of lessons, the extra-curricular activities, the climate of relationships and the positive ethos i.e. the attitudes, values annd behaviour promoted by the school community as a whole.

Children who are four and under, comply to the 'Foundations for Learning' whereas the rest of the school follow Curriculum 2000 which encompasses the folowing areas:

Core Subjects - English, Mathematics, Science, Information Technology (ICT), Religious Education (RE)

Non-Core Subjects - History, Geography, Art, Design Technology (DT), Music, Physical Education (PE), Personal, Health and Social Education (PSHE) and Citizenship

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

In addition to the school curriculum, the school tries to develop special interests and skills in a series of voluntary activities organised and run by memebers of staff. Some sessions are held at lunchtimes, and others after school. School teams are selected on merit, to represent the school in sporting activities. A list of current clubs can be accessed from the menu but occasionally we may have one off activities in preparation for an inter-school event e.g. The olympics and cross country.

EXTENDED SCHOOLS

Extended schools provide additional opportunities for pupils to access a wide range of activities outside of school hours.

Brockholes Wood is open from half past seven to half past five every day. Breakfast Club starts the day with a wide variety of healthy food. We have a wide variety of extra curricular activities that children can access and a successful after school club that has been open for ten years.

All of the extended school clubs are Ofsted registered.

The school has close links with the local Sure Start group and they run a variety of activities for both children and parents.

The school also has a nursery attached to the building which provides childcare between the ages of 3 months to four.
