ABOUT US

There are around 1750 pupils and students on roll, including some 350 in the sixth form. The school has a well deserved reputation not only for its outstanding academic work (our sixth form was ranked seventh of all state schools nationally in terms of academic success in 2005) but also for sport (Sportsmark Award and regular success in national competitions), for Music, Drama and many other activities. We are a Specialist Arts College, a Training School and enjoy Healthy School and Leading Edge status. Since 2004 we have been an Ambassador School for the National Academy of Gifted and Talented Youth.

MISSION

Building on our foundation as a Church of England Secondary School with Specialist Status in Performing Arts we seek to provide an excellent education within a Christian environment to fulfil individual potential and prepare pupils for life and service in a rapidly changing world.

The Christian ethos pervades every aspect of life and work within our community, in which worship has a central place. We believe this is what makes our school so successful.

The importance of worship is reflected in the building of a new, purpose-built chapel complex for prayer, discussion and communion.

FACILITIES

Facilities include: drama studio, keyboard laboratory, recording studio, gym, sports hall, swimming pool, tennis courts, floodlit Astroturf pitches and extensive sports fields.

SIXTH FORM

Over 50% of our Year 11 pupils go on to join our equally successful Sixth Form where there are around 280 students on roll. A large range of ‘A’ level subjects is offered including Law, Media Studies, Music, Performing Arts, Psychology and Sociology as well as more traditional subjects.

Sixthformers are encouraged to broaden their range of life experience and may choose to take part in the AQA Community Service and Primary School Teaching Schemes, Duke of Edinburgh Scheme (Gold) and Young Enterprise. Each year we aim to offer scholarships for two of our students to spend six months studying Japan. Students also take part in a wide range of subject-related field trips.
