ABOUT US

Cuerden Church School was created by the amalgamation of St. Saviour’s C.E. and Bamber Bridge Methodist Schools and is now operating at Station Road in a new purpose built school which opened in September 2006. As a Voluntary Aided School, working with an “open door” policy, it can work closely with the local community whilst maintaining a strong Christian ethos. The school is affiliated to the Churches of St. Saviour’s Church of England and Bamber Bridge Methodist.

ETHOS STATEMENT

Recognising its heritage, the school will create and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and the Methodist Church and in partnership with the Churches at parish/local church, circuit/diocesan level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

CURRICULUM

Children will follow the framework for the early learning goals of the Foundation Stage and the programmes of study outlined in the National Curriculum for both Core and Foundation Subjects. The Governors of Cuerden Church School have adopted the Blackburn Diocesan/District Syllabus for Religious Education.

Schemes of work and policies have been developed alongside the National Literacy and National Numeracy Strategies, Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, the Local Education Authority, Diocesan/District Guidelines and Lancashire County Council’s Curriculum Statement and Policy (currently under review). Personal Social and Health Education (P.S.H.E.) will be taught incorporating Sex and Drug Education. Copies are available from the school office.

OUT OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

After school, teachers give up time to organise various clubs and in addition some clubs are run by outside organisations at a small charge.

We offer the following activities at the present time: Computer Club, football, netball, guitars, Maths Club, Choir, Art and Craft, Gardening/Nature Club, Chess Club, Science Club, Drama Club and Boxercise.
