ABOUT US

Emmanuel Holcombe CE Primary School is a very special place for children, staff, parents and governors. Our Christian identity is hugely important to us and is reflected in everything we do.

Our school is part of the small village community of Holcombe, though we draw on a wide catchment from many parts of Bury and Rossendale, Lancashire. Our history and heritage also set our identity as a school - the main part of our school dates back to 1864.

The most important people in our school are, of course, the children. They are very proud of their school and enjoy the rich and varied activities we offer.

As far as the school’s curriculum is concerned, great emphasis is placed on the quality of endeavour in the acquisition and extension of a wide range of basic skills (e.g. reading, writing, arithmetic, etc.). The aim is to extend each child’s learning to his or her fullest capabilities. This aim is fulfilled through a number of subject areas, including English, Mathematics, Science, Design and Information Technology, History, Geography, Religious Education, Art & Craft, Music, Physical Education, Drama and Personal, Social and Health Education.

The school enters most of the inter-school sports events run by Bury Junior School Sports Association, including football, netball, cross-country, swimming, cricket, rounders and athletics. We also take part in a range of similar events as part of the Bury Small Schools competitions. This we do despite our severe restrictions on play space on the school site (requiring us at present to make use of Ramsbottom Bath’s field). We make use of opportunities to work with sports development officers, and a range of sports is offered to junior pupils. These have included tennis, rugby, hockey and football. It is the expressed wish of the Governing Body to seek to enhance the hard and soft play area available in the school grounds or in the village.

Clubs are held in school in the following interests: recorder playing, choir, football, netball, cricket and rounders.. We also encourage children to play musical instruments, and tuition is provided in school at the moment for children in guitar, violin, keyboards and flute.
