Central to the child's education is its mastery and understanding of the basic skills of literacy and numeracy. The ability to read fluency and understanding, to express ideas and thoughts in writing, to understand and be able to manipulate numbers are crucial skills children need to acquire so their future educational development can proceed successfully.
In Fishwick the planned curriculum for each year group is structured around units of work which reflect the programmes of study for the core and foundation subjects of the National Curriculum, and draws on the cross-curriculum themes and dimensions.
CORE SUBJECTS: Mathematics (Numeracy), English (Literacy), and Science, Religious Education and Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
FOUNDATION SUBJECTS: History, Geography, Design Technology, Music, Art and Physical Education
CROSS CURRICULUM THEMES AND DIMENSIONS: Economic awareness and industrial understanding, environmental education, health education and education for citizenship.
Children are introduced to modern technology in Reception and all classrooms are equipped with at least two computers so offering each child regular access and a range of experience. We are also developing a computer suite, which will include supervised use of the INTRANET.
Music including singing, appreciation an composition is enjoyed by all classes.
