| ABOUT US
Garstang High School is maintained by Lancashire LEA as a Community Technology College offering a high quality education to young people, 11-16, from Garstang, Rural Wyre, and further afield. We delight in being a school large enough to provide the very best educational opportunities yet small enough to care for each individual.
|
| - Our mission is to deliver high quality learning to all our pupils.
- We are committed to providing a high standard of care for our pupils.
- We believe in providing our pupils with a smart and well-equipped learning environment.
- Our aim is for the pupils to leave school with the skills, qualifications and the self -belief in order to realise their personal ambitions and become responsible, active citizens.
|
| Our status as a specialist technology college means that we have extra resources and opportunities available in applied and information technology, maths and science, so as to enable our students to be successful in an increasingly technological society. At the same time we take great care to ensure that other areas of the curriculum, such as the arts, humanities, languages and RE. play a prominent part in each student's development. |
| Our curriculum is broad and balanced, carefully crafted to provide maximum flexibility and an excellent grounding for a wide variety of careers.
Our commitment to breadth and balance in the curriculum means that we provide our students with an excellent experience in creative and expressive arts, and sport. Our success in qualifying for the national Artsmark and Sportsmark Awards recognises our achievements in these areas.
We recognise that all our students are different - with different needs and aspirations. No single curriculum route is right for all. At Key Stage 4 especially we aim to ensure maximum flexibility so that each individual student may follow a curriculum pathway best suited to them. Students are able to make their choices from a wide range of academic and vocational courses, leading to different qualifications. |
| Duke of Edinburgh's Award, rock climbing, ski-ing, residential adventure holidays, fishing, golf... These are just a few of the many exciting opportunities available to our students. Our extensive and ever-expanding range of extra-curricular activities is great fun and offers every student a real opportunity to develop their personal and social skills. All this is central to our commitment to a well-rounded education.
|
| Students post-16 leave us to take up a variety of opportunities, many following academic and vocational courses in local sixth forms and colleges. School-based induction days, careers conventions and visits to partner colleges enable our students to make an informed choice.
In preparing for the world of work all students benefit from a period of work experience. CVs, application forms and practice at interviews are all covered in the curriculum. Each student, throughout their school years, compiles a Progress File which provides solid evidence of all aspects of personal achievement.
