ABOUT US

Gillibrand Primary School offers a primary education to children aged 4 to 11 years. The school was established on 30th June 1975, in the premises of the former St. George's C.E. Primary School at the junction of Bolton Street and Pall Mall.

We have extensive school grounds and playing fields and two separate play grounds; one for children in Key Stage 1 (aged 4 - 7) and one for our Key Stage 2 pupils (aged 7 - 11).

The school is organised into classes according to the chronological age of the children. There are currently 7 classes for the 7 age groups.

The maximum number of children in each class is 30. This makes the maximum number on roll for the school 210. The governors took the decision to reduce the admission number to 30 some years ago in order to keep class sizes small, improving the pupil:teacher ratio and enabling staff to better meet the individual needs of the children.

The school curriculum at Gillibrand is designed to meet the full requirements of the National Curriculum and the Foundation Stage Curriculum. It is in line with the curriculum policy statement of Lancashire County Council and the aims and mission statement of the school.

The school's curriculum provides opportunities for learning in both the lessons taught as part of the school day, and the extra-curricular activities that deliberately extend and enhance the formal curriculum.

We see extra-curricular clubs and activities as an extension of our school curriculum, which provide children with the opportunity to extend and enrich their learning in different subjects beyond the end of the school day.
