When pupils join us in Year 7 they are placed in ability sets for Math and English, based on information from Key Stage 2. Grouping for other subjects varies. Art, Music and Drama are taught in registration forms.
Performance reviews take place regularly. Subjects are taught according to National Curriculum guidelines with pupils following a common course in Key Stage 3.
Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9)
Pupils study Art, Design Technology, Drama, English, French, Geography, History, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Maths, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education, Science, Spanish (taken by some pupils in Year 8 and 9).
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11)
All pupils study English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science (Single Award), ICT, Religious Education and Physical Education. In response to Government changes the options system is becoming increasingly flexible. Pupils can choose four subjects from a range available in Visual and Expressive Arts, Technology, Modern Foreign Languages, Humanities, PE and ICT. All pupils take one of the Visual arts options. This reflects our Specialist Arts College status. We also offer vocationally related courses.
